I think it was the renowned philosopher, Christopher Rock, that said:

"Men don't commit. We surrender.".

C3 is worrying too much about other relationships.

Competing with another couple? Who cares? Get engaged when you want, not when it will fit in better with your friends.

To the other poster that replied to me....if that is what they both actually want....then that is all up to them. Just mainly looking at the situation where the 22 year girl was demanding an engagement. Red flags everywhere on that one.

Living together is the ultimate thing delaying a ring i think. there's no incentive to get married. You have all the benefits of being married without the expenses.

She's overly anxious to get married. They'll be divorced in a few years.

What is keeping him from just going ahead and popping the question then? He will tell her in late April or early May that it's him, not her.

If he's trying to compete with some other couple for attention then he's doing it wrong. More likely he just never gave himself a deadline that he's planning to break when he tells her it is him and not her.

call me old fashioned, but it seems like you are removing a bit of the romance from the situation by being so open about it. Personally, an engagement shouldn't necessarily come as a shock to either party, it should be somewhat anticipated, but it also shouldn't be expected.

call me old fashioned...but i don't give a flying frick about how my friends handle their engagements.

Not trying to be a dick, but what are the benefits of being married? As stated earlier, I've been living with my fiance for 3 years.

Good luck to the guy in couple 1. He married an immature bitch it sounds like. She'll either cheat or leave him or both.

They've been dating for several years and she's 22? She'll run through his workmates or bosses or friends.

Did you just propose to her to buy yourself more time? I don't understand really long engagements(unless you actually have date set and are saving up money for wedding or are in school or some other good reason).

You one of those guys who thinks he can put off marriage as long as he can by giving her a ring and hoping it's enough to keep her happy?

Eta:nvm....just read your other post and saw you just got engaged

I wonder, is it sort of odd to just openly talk about your assumed marriage or engagement with your significant other?

My wife and I discussed marriage and compatibility, and even went through a workbook prior to me asking her to marry me.

All three can...

It has been presumed for awhile now that the two will inevitably get married, and the boyfriend has gone as far as to impose a deadline for himself. He has more or less told the girl that they will be engaged by May.
Why on earth would you do something this stupid.

I'm just going to have an arranged marriage, so I have this card in my back pocket at all times:

"Bitch, do you think I want to be with you either?!"

I have a feeling it'll be worth it

Not necessarily a pro if you make significantly higher income than she does.

You should not live together before marriage.

I can't imagine these breaks are really that great. Are they?

Combined incomes: How do most couples, where both people are financially independent, handle the banking?

Why not? I wouldn't buy a car without driving it first.

If these three couples were friends of mine, the only real judgment I would pass on them and their engagement situations would deal with whether or not they decided to hold the wedding during football season.
