I'm a fatty and most of this is silly

I'm well aware that people make judgments about people because of their weight, some of which are extremely ignorant.

That being said it's the world we live in. I can either deal with it or lose weight.

should you pay more in health insurance based on your risk?

I'm a size 00, but being really fat is gross. Being curvy (for a woman) is ok, but not downright fat. Men get much more wiggle room, because women are expected to be beautiful.

I actually don't find men who look like they live in a gym attractive. I just want men to not have a gut. Men are useful, physically, women are sensual.

Being fat is an objectively unhealthy and destructive choice. There's a difference between being cruel and refusing to normalize or approve of obesity

Not only that, the costs of obesity are socialized.

This sounds like the thoughts of a person who hates & judges fat people.

Is it really discriminating when the large majority of the population is fat?

Good, fat people cost more and they're nasty to look at.

Higher health insurance premiums and higher taxes to pay for more Medicare and Medicaid. It is illegal for most plans to charge more than 3X the cost of the cheapest plan in the insurance pool, so I am stuck paying for a fatty whose lifetime healthcare costs are 10X mine.

It’s not an insignificant contributor to why we have the highest healthcare costs in the world.

And then you can get into things like disability codes (often driven by obesity) which drives up the costs of construction of buildings and on and on.

I figured that’s what you meant. That’s not true. If fat people disgust you, fine. You’re entitled to your opinion. But don’t stretch the truth to go above and beyond in vilifying fat people to fit your hatred.

What drives all of our premiums up are the people receiving health care and not contributing to the pot. A fat person who pays for his/her healthcare is paying for it out of his/her pocket. The guy who is getting his shite paid for or discounted...you and I are paying the difference in higher premiums. Somebody has to pay for them.

Big misconception that I see on this board a lot. Y’all are barking up the wrong tree.

Microaggressions against fat people are so pervasive and normalised in modern society

I think obesity is so pervasive and normalized that it’s hard to think there is much aggression towards fatties. Maybe the ultra fat slugs who can barely walk, but not the typical overweight person. About 85% of americans are fat I think.

I work in the healthcare strategy space, dude. Obesity is a massive contributor to our total costs in all sorts of hidden ways, so yes, it is true. And most of those who get discounted rates are themselves obese, so it compounds itself. It’s an economic drag of some $200B per year.

Obese people don’t disgust me, and I mostly have sympathy, but there needs to be a strong social stigma against it.

Nothing wrong with a thick chick. I’ll take 140 over 95 every day of the week.

I am tiny and muscular. I prefer touching a softer woman, not thick, but girlie. Curves are fine by me.

Smokers and the obese are the two worse populations.

I fricking hate going into a casino and my clothes smelling like smoke the next day.

I also judge hard when I see a family of 3-4 loading up a buggy of soft drinks, chips, and other sugary fattening crap to give their kids.
