Quite the admission. There you have it. Why socialism always fails.

How much personal liberty are you willing to give up in order to get that system of government? Because you'd essentially have to shred the US Constitution to get that. Are you willing to give up your 1A rights? Your 4A rights? How about your rights to due process? Your rights to choose your healthcare provider?
Progressives view the European governments with reverence, despite the fact that they routinely arrest and charge people for statements they make.

They have no 1A rights.

No 2A rights.

Their legal system is fricked.

Their police forces are even more strongly political entities than anywhere in the US.

They romanticize the hell out of European governments.

We've been living in a perpetual surveillance state since at least The War on Drugs and people still act like the Constitution isn't somehow already shredded. The justification that the Justice Department came up with to kill US citizens during the Trump admin (with the case concluded during the Biden admin) should have raised alarm bells, but didn't, as the standard was 'when state secrets were at risk' which is incredibly flimsy. It all depends on when the security state decides to turn its eye onto you. We've given up a ton of liberty already. It's just been in the name of security.

That's pretty glib. I prefer not to put your claim to the test.

Why would you assume that it is necessary to give up any personal liberty? In fact, people would be more free to pursue their own aims, not less free.

Ah yes, AOC made this exact argument about how socialist governments are superior - because the government controls every aspect of your life, it frees you from having to worry about such things.

This is how 3rd graders view the world.

If you think socialist Euro governments provide their citizens with more freedom and individual liberties than in the US, then you have no grasp on reality.

Even the French say American progressives are a danger to them.

They've already split the USA

quote:

Will American Ideas Tear France Apart? Some of Its Leaders Think So

Politicians and prominent intellectuals say social theories from the United States on race, gender and post-colonialism are a threat to French identity and the French republic.

quote:

The threat? “Certain social science theories entirely imported from the United States,’’ said President Emmanuel Macron.

French politicians, high-profile intellectuals and journalists are warning that progressive American ideas — specifically on race, gender, post-colonialism — are undermining their society.

We are all in the same page that this isn’t remotely addressed at your average ask dissenter and instead geared towards the ones that are quite literally ready to die on the hill?

If the USG wants to make an enemy out of you, you think these rights will be respected? They've dismantled numerous organic movements from the 40s onwards in the name of security, and somehow people still beleive these rights are sacrosanct and the USG would respect them?

This is the most uneducated view of the European governments.

You do realize that they literally arrest people for speech, correct?

Are you willing to give up your 1st Amendment?

I personally would prefer a European-style social capitalism hybrid system in which the state closely regulates markets and provides public and social infrastructure that makes everyones' lives better.

Here’s a crazy thought: why don’t you go live somewhere in Europe then? There may still be remnants of a few facist regimes over there that would be to your liking.

So I'd reject the premise that "progressivism" is a bad thing.

Of course you would. We’ve read your posts.

My grasp on reality is just fine, and my world view is based in personal observation and experience. Is yours?

Common sense approaches would be backed by data, not emotions and threats. You wouldn't have to sell it so hard if it was actually common sense. Kids are not dying. Across the world you should look at case and case spread rate trends with mask mandate dates overlaid. If you come away concluding that mask mandates have any effect, you do not understand data at all.

What makes any of this right? Are you supporting broad authoritarian regimes?

Absolutely not, which is why it would be more appropriate for everyone to view the USG as the corrupt, warped institution it really is, rather than the benevolent savior TxTiger views it as.
