My raise was that my boss decided not to beat me with a sock full of nickels during my review.

Everyone that says they got up to a 20% raise since COVID timeframe due to a promotion are all making the same as before the raise with more responsibilities

And anyone who says they didn't get a 20% raise is getting paid less than they were before while still performing the same responsibilities. Which would you prefer?

sounds like 2 miserable parties

I'll make 60% more this year compared to 2019.

Doesn't feel like I'm that much ahead after expenses though, so frick us.

This board shits on lazy union workers then bitches because the unions fought for raises based on the bullshite economy we have. Almost seems like the unions are sometimes worth it?

Hell no. In fact they have slashed benefits and aren’t contributing as much to retirement.

for 2 hours last week and one customer came in to browse. Middle class America has things locked down.FTR, this is going to get ugly with mortgages and car payments and because people simply can’t make the numbers work. Insurance alone is a fricking horror show.

People stopped trying to keep up with the Joneses and started trying to live that social media famous life.

We bought a C+/B- house more than 10 years ago. Refi'd during CoVID, took 10 years off the note, and took out no additional money.

We drive one old-arse car and one 4 year old car that has a $300 note.

(And we're top 5% income earners in Louisiana.)

Too many people trying to live WAY above their means.

"The economy is fricked" rings hollow when you're trying to float a $5K mortgage and two $1K car notes.

(The economy is fricked for a wild number of reasons - few of which are tied to any one particular politician, past or present.)

Nope. Fortunately, my wife got a pretty big promotion and increase. Would be so much better if we all did, and inflation was down.

Crazy how that’s too much to ask for. Our government fricking sucks.

Or it could be that multiple industries are getting crushed , at the exact same time that mandatory expenses ( insurance, taxes, food etc) is skyrocketing. I visit my blue collar clients and they are overwhelmingly on hold for now. People are on TIGHT margins.

For instance, my mortgage was $1750 2 years ago and 2500 today. And my taxes. And ALL my business expenses. And of course groceries. And virtually everything else. At some point everybody can’t earn their way out of it.

I live WELL below my means and always have. Except now my means ain’t what they used to be.

Social security was probably only ones who saw a bump in pay. I think it's increase is tied to inflation.
