Well, I never got to have one of the cool metal lunch boxes with a thermos (Bonanza, Rat Patrol, or such) that some of the kids had. Just a brown paper bag, usually reused multiple times, for my sandwich. Probably just as well, a glass thermos wouldn't have had a long life expectancy around me, anyway.

As a lefty, I loved and hated Paper Mate Erasable Pens. By the bottom of the sheet my hand was blue and the sheet was a blur. While a curse the pens; the teacher couldn't read it, so I could always bullshite to get one or two more questions right.

vividly remember some rich uppity arse kid in 3rd grade came with the mega box of crayolas with the SHARPENER in the box.

I know a wealthy businessman that has the giant crayola box with built in sharpener on his desk because he grew up poor and only had the shite 8 crayons lol.

I don’t think great value existed then

But pro wings, rustler jeans and flea market knock off stuff did . But most everything I got came from a garage sale. We didn’t have money and I was raised in a house with love, but I’m thankful I was able to do more for my kids

I don't remember school supplies specifically but knowing my parents, they most definitely bought what they thought was the best value regardless of brand or price. I do remember having Crayola so that was important but they refused to buy the expensive Coca cola rugby shirts when they were popular, got a knock off Pepsi sweatshirt instead.

My mom bought me off-brand EVERYTHING possible. She was a single mom working 50-60 hours a week.

I hated it as a kid, but grown-up me respects the hell out of her for doing what she did with so little help.

For better or worse as a result I can’t help but spoil my own kids(within reason) because of it.

I was born in 1963. Mostly got the good stuff for school. I did wear the Tough skins clothes in elementary school. Mom bought the matching jacket for me. I had the red, green, blue and white sets.

I’ll never forget the day in 5th grade I showed up in those white tough skins jeans and jacket. I was nicknamed Elvis. A picture was taken that still shows up for my ridicule to this day.

No hard feelings, mom tried hard to dress me well.

My mom had been a teacher so she knew all the other crayons sucked - so we got crayola

But we may have used the same box for a few years

I honestly don’t know. I think I gripped that I still had colors and pencils left over from last year, why did I need more? Did the same with clothes, I’d rather have worn old clothes than go spend a hour of my life trying on new.

Back in my days we didn’t have fancy schools supplies.

After walking to school 2 miles with no shoes, in a foot of snow in May in South Louisiana, and only have 1 pencil and a pack of paper we thought we had it pretty good.
