Did you marry within a similar economic threshold?

My wife's side a bit more money but not much. Both would fall into about the same class money wise.
Assuming most will be the same as like people tend to get together but I'm sure there will be some who are married up or down.
For those who married up or down, were there any issues?

Yes. Maybe not exact numbers, but certainly same class and general upbringing. I couldn't have married someone I couldn't share life experiences with.
Our incomes today are very far apart.. but being that we are married and that stuff is shared, it doesn't really affect anything.

Not yet, but my wife and her rich arse family haven’t met the West Bank side of me yet.

Didn’t ever cross my mind to even think about it. Now that we have been married for 15 years and you have brought it up I would have thought back then it was equal. Both hard working blue collar families one in the paper industry and the other oilfield.
After my FIL passed and we had to go through his finances it’s way lopsided to my side. He was a multiple time cancer survivor and had to take an early retirement so he decided to live his best life and we enjoyed every minute of it.

I make more money; my wife comes from more money.

No. Not even close. I grew up in a normal middle class family in a small town in the middle of nowhere. My wife grew up in an affluent suburb of a major east coast city. Her K-12 education was 2x the cost of the house I was raised in.
I’ve always made considerably more than her though.

My wife's family is rich...by Indonesian standards.
Doesn't mean much as we don't see any of it. My wife has a house in Indonesia that her family pays a maid and handymen to upkeep for her if she ever decides to move back. They have been doing that for 18 years now. Her mom told us if we moved there we wouldn't have to work anymore but I am cool with not living in Jakarta.
If it was Bali I might consider it.
I grew up pure middle-class thanks to two hard-working parents

I grew up poor with a single mother and a sister abandoned by my POS biological father. My. wife’s family parents are still together. She grew up upper middle class. So no. We do well for ourselves now; biggest issue is spending money on stupid shite because I grew up poor.

I married (and divorced) in the same general class.
Good friend that is OT wealthy (mid six figure income, company stock in a trust worth seven figures, golf cart with rims, etc.) married a girl that came from just above trailer park wealth.
She feels trapped in the marriage because she likes the trappings of wealth, while not being treated the way she'd like. I've seen this many times.

My wife and I are from middle class so we’re both currently middle class….shocking.

I grew up bottom of the middle class. We were barely middle class and that is for Louisiana standards.
Wife grew up in a big suburb and was upper class. Herself and all of her siblings went to big state universities without any scholarships or loans. Their parents were happy to pay.

Are you still a gigolo once married?

My parents were self made in their successes, which were entrepreneurial. My wife's parents both have doctorate degrees and ranch land where they raise Angus cattle and hay. Economically, though, not much difference. Wife and I are pretty much the same although she's earning, currently, more than twice what I earn.

Not really. We both went to similar/the same schools, so we were used to the same world, relatively speaking. My parents just had to struggle a lot more to put me there. Combine that with my being a professional, and things folded together fine. Might be different if I were making good money, but in a blue collar trade.

At one point my wife quadrupled my pay and I wasn’t making bad money 10 to 12 years ago

My wife had two parents who each had a master's degree by the time they were 25. I didn't have a parent with a college degree until I was 5 years old (mom raised 4 kids and never stopped working while she went and got a bachelor's and master's in her late 30s-early 40s like a damn rockstar.) Yet somehow my wife's recollection of her upbringing makes me think I was a Kennedy.
I'm pretty sure we both were in about the same economic class growing up. We both went to great private schools and had all the things given to us, but our parents were woefully unprepared for retirement meaning we benefitted from absurdly selfless moms and dads.

Do you spend the money on stupid shite or does she? I grew up poor/working class, and it’s painful for me to spend money sometimes even though we have money. My husband doesn’t spend outside our means, but he certainly doesn’t think about money like I do. He grew up with money and assumes it will always be there. I didn’t, and I don’t.

Not even close. My wife counts her land by the section and I’m from the West Bank.
