Much talk about using her phone. This is speculation and always a consideration by LEO.
Much talk about the road. I've traveled a lot and been on back roads in most states. Lots of back roads! I can't say that road, or for that matter most roads around here are any different from the norm in this nation. If you follow those scenic route signs as we often do pay attention to the condition and shoulder size/shape. I rate that road as being pretty dam good. Also, she approached from Perkins Rd. That is a pretty good approach angle and view. Coming from the hwy 74 end is a little more tricky. I used to love that direction when I had my T/A.

Many of these roads are substandard for the speed limits posted.
Link?
I'm speaking in generalities. Many back roads simply are not safe to drive 55 in every type of vehicle. It was not my point to say that particular road is substandard.
I will say, though, that a lot of smooth good looking roads don't necessarily have good drainage.
If this particular spot has witnessed an abnormal number of occasions with people flying off, then it should be studied for improvements.

Don't have a clue what caused the accident but I can tell you first hand about the traffic.Have friends that live in Serenity Lakes across from the accident location. Trying to leave and turn onto Bluff right there is a suicide mission. Cars routinely travel much faster than what is posted. Several close calls in that curve leaving. Road is not patrolled much by police but am sure that is about to change.

Man frick that pot hole. I cussed out loud in my car for at least 30 seconds after hitting it the other day, swearing I was charging the city of Geismar, the AP, ETC for damage if there was any.

Wasn't that long ago we saw an accident right there in the curve. It was right by that gated driveway with the wooden fence. Somebody was stopped in the curve to turn, person coming from behind couldn't stop and plowed into them. If you look you can see where that fence has been fixed. The cars went straight through it. The road surface isn't the problem as much as that curve, the visibility around it & the lack of shoulder are. Add in the frickin 8" drop off and it's easy to see why accidents happen. That Road scares the shite outta me

Anything scientific to back that up with?

Well, you pretty much implied just that.

My god will y'all give it a rest. The road sucks, but there's probably nothing substandard about it. The drop off in some areas is my biggest concern but it's not like it's uncommon. I've never seen standing water on it anywhere. At least not that I can think off.

Get off the juice. Read my first post and my second. Nothing was implied, and the premise was stated that it "MAY" be an issue contributing to the vehicle leaving the road.
No one needs a scientific study to know roads in LA are bad. Don't believe me, go look at the verdicts.
Did you design or build this road?

Are you arguing just to argue? What did smartphones do to make you so angry? Is it that Candy Crush game?

I believe you but not because of what a bunch of idiots on a jury may decide.

Not point to you specifically. All that go that way, why don't you call the parish AND state about this? They can't fix pot holes when there is water in them. Otherwise they would have to pay damages if you report and keep a record.

Not really. Again, you are talking about assuming exactly one thing compared to assuming it was anything except once thing. One of those assumptions is much more reasonable than the other.
But I was responding to the accusation specifically saying that they seriously doubt any texting was gong on.
I understand how statistics work. The post did not say they think "it was something else". They specifically said they seriously doubt it was due to texting.

Good! I hate texting and driving as well

Which means he seriously believes that it was anything other than texting. That is more reasonable whether you care to admit it or not.

Been there, done that. I used to drive hwy 74 from 61 to St. G. and back 3-4 days a week. Our secretary once called the state and reported THE ENTIRE road.
