Nope and you were lucky to get a seat with a functional window.
I was a bus rider at the end of the 70’s with all the hot gals having those fluffy hair do’s like the old Farrah Fawcett posters. They would get really mad if the windows in front of them were down to blow away their hair.

The school bus driver had a little fan, we had nothing. When in Jr High we rode NOPSI busses that had AC, much better to sleep on.

Desegregation has all but ended this practice. Huge loss for society.

No AC.
One time we caught a guy jacking off on the bus. He threw his seed on a girl. He then called him Spider Man.

or seatbelts

There is a reason they dont put seatbelts on school buses.

quote:

According to the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration: “Students are about 70 times more likely to get to school safely when taking a bus instead of traveling by car. That’s because school buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road; they’re designed to be safer than passenger vehicles in preventing crashes and injuries; and in every State, stop-arm laws protect children from other motorists. Seat belts have been required on passenger cars since 1968, and 49 States and the District of Columbia have enacted laws requiring the use of seat belts in passenger cars and light trucks. There is no question that seat belts play an important role in keeping passengers safe in these vehicles. But school buses are different by design, including a different kind of safety restraint system that works extremely well. Large school buses are heavier and distribute crash forces differently than passenger cars and light trucks do. Because of these differences, bus passengers experience much less crash force than those in passenger cars, light trucks, and vans. NHTSA decided the best way to provide crash protection to passengers of large school buses is through a concept called “compartmentalization.” This requires that the interior of large buses protect children without them needing to buckle up. Through compartmentalization, children are protected from crashes by strong, closely-spaced seats that have energy-absorbing seat backs. Small school buses (with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less) must be equipped with lap and/or lap/shoulder belts at all designated seating positions. Since the sizes and weights of small school buses are closer to those of passenger cars and trucks, seat belts in those vehicles are necessary to provide occupant protection.”

We lived just inside the city limits, a mile from the school, which made us eligible to ride the bus, but they said we didn't because the end of the street where they would have picked us up was less than a mile, so we walked and raised hell on Mississippi College Campus every day as we walked across it like we were young kings. Snuck in a seldom locked door of the MC Gym at night and played BB on the Choctaw BB court. Slipped through a hole in the fence and played tennis on their fenced in tennis courts and rode our bikes on the track inside that fence.

AC on School Buses back in the early 1960s?

AC in our house? Dad said we had an attic fan and didn't need one. Only much later in my life did I learn mom and dad could not afford such luxuries.

No AC on a school bus lol and no AC at school. I remember about 8th grade or so they installed ceiling fans and we were excited and grateful. Soft arse kids and drivers these days.
