I have no idea, but a pointless story to add.

About 6 months ago in Denver, I met a 98 year old WW2 veteran. He told me he and a number of other soldiers were able to walk around inside inside Hitler's mountain home three days after the war ended. He said he has a picture of him smoking a cigar in Hitler's den. He told me there wasn't anything left on the walls and that all of the furniture was gone. He said the only thing that was left to steal was Hitler's door handle and lock to his front door. He told me he had his tools and took off the door handle and lock. I asked if he still had it and he said "I've got it somewhere in a box in the garage."

For the right or wrong reasons, I'm sure someone would pay top dollar for it. I don't know how much something like that could go for, but I'd think it could be authenticated.

Hell, maybe he was bullshitting me, but if not, someone is going to pitch that out when he passes, which should be soon.

That's a great story if true. I believe the first U.S. soldiers to get to that house were 101st Airborne, parachute infantry, that were featured in the mini series, Band of Brothers. In that show, there was a guy stealing Hitler's silverware and shipping it home as a wedding present to his sister, I believe. There was also Hitler's wine and alcohol collection as well, if I recall.

The only thing left to steal being a door handle sounds sketchy, but who knows.

Oh, and just to add on topic. Anyone that believes that Hitler escaped, lived for years, then died without telling a soul is absolutely crazy. And if you believe that every other person that knew about it kept it a secret is just as crazy.

Let's say he did escape. Do you really believe that as he was on his death bed, he wouldn't announce to the world that he had outsmarted them? He was a complete ego maniac. What would he have to lose? You think he would want the world thinking he committed suicide (weak) if it didn't happen?

And there's no way he could have done it alone, and no way that someone would not have talked before they died, and let the press know what happened.

Think about it people.

Not disputing you, but what credible evidence is there of him dying in the bunker?

The folks present who were interviewed. Hitler had learned of Il Duce's (and mistress) death, dismemberment and spectacle. He ordered the Gestapo-provided cyanide capsule tested on one of his beloved dogs. Witnesses (the secretaries notably) gave credible testimony that he was in the quarters and they heard the shot.

Günsche (one of the few with access to the quarters) discovered the body and then announced to the rest of the bunker that Hitler was dead. (Günsche was also charged by Hitler to dispose of his and Braun's remains). Now, Günsche was SS, so he would have been in a position to say/do anything for Hitler, but he never wavered on his statements, living until 2003. It is a stretch to think he would have kept what would have to be regarded as the world's biggest secret (unless someone has knowledge of JFK's assassination or actual presence) for almost 60 years.

I wouldn't even know how to research an item like this, but let's just say the vet was telling the truth. How much do you think Hitler's door handle/lock would go for at auction?

I don't have a clue, but I'm guessing at least $10K on the low end. I'm sure there's any number of nazi organizations that would pay good money for it. Kind of gross to think about.

I don't know, and don't really care, but...

Anyone who believes that someone would read about the Nuremburg trials, and the resulting hangings of Nazi officers and officials, and thinks they would not do their best to hide their identity is a little off.

And if you believe that every other person that knew about it kept it a secret is just as crazy.

Maybe, but you aren't necessarily talking about that many people. Much of the military work on a need to know basis. He could have been transported around the world without the people doing it knowing who they were transporting, or even that they were transporting anyone at all.

There are a lot of ways to die. He could have taken the express to hell, while choking his chicken.

He didn't, and they have. Which is precisely why the FBI, the CIA, British intelligence, and Israeli intelligence have been investigating this subject pretty much since it happened.

Hitler was addicted to drugs and his health deteriorated rapidly.

He wouldn't of made it far without his personal doctor.

I would think it's impossible to tell how much that would go for. It's one of those things that would be auctioned, and it is worth whatever some rich person decides they want to spend.

But I think it would appeal to many more people than just Nazi organizations. Any WWII buff would be interested in owning it, and there are probably numerous museums that would love to have it. The problem would be authenticating it's the actual one.

But any item that can be directly tied to Hitler, and used by him, I would think would be really high dollar stuff.

To heck with the doorknob. I want that Walther PPK he used to blow his brains out.

Hitler wasn't such a bad guy. He killed Hitler.

Of course they would, while alive. And Hitler would. But that has nothing to do with spilling the biggest secret in history at the time of their death.

Disagree. More than 2 would be plenty to know. And we all know it would have to be much more than 2. And again, why would they keep it a secret after their death?
quote:

There are a lot of ways to die. He could have taken the express to hell, while choking his chicken.

And again, I'll ask. Then why didn't anyone that knew tell the world after he died? And why wouldn't Hitler make arrangements that upon his death, that it be announced to the world that he escaped? Being the known ego maniac that he was, why wouldn't he arrange for that?

There is not one person directly tied one on one to Hitler that has spoken firsthand, or can provide any verifiable proof, that they did in fact see Hitler living after his suicide. You know that. It's all speculation being played out for ratings.

Hitler was a dope Fiend

quote:

When Hitler fell seriously ill in 1941, however, the vitamin injections that Morell had counted on no longer had any effect – and so he began to ramp things up. First, there were injections of animal hormones for this most notorious of vegetarians, and then a whole series of ever stronger medications until, at last, he began giving him a “wonder drug” called Eukodal, a designer opiate and close cousin of heroin whose chief characteristic was its potential to induce a euphoric state in the patient (today it is known as oxycodone). It wasn’t long before Hitler was receiving injections of Eukodal several times a day. Eventually he would combine it with twice daily doses of the high grade cocaine he had originally been prescribed for a problem with his ears, following an explosion in the Wolf’s Lair, his bunker on the eastern front.

Listen to what you're typing. Helping to provide for Hitler's escape and cover story is something he would be obligated to do also, wouldn't it? The SS weren't Germany's soldiers, they swore allegiance to Hitler himself.

Didn't he just get elected as President?

At least that's what MSNBC and CNN keep trying to tell me.

Its pretty well known that Hitler escaped the Russians, and he and Eva Braun snuck out of Germany and were whisked away to Oak Island where an UG complex had been created by the Germans to hide Hitler, and their treasures.

I'm just playing devil's advocate, but you aren't using your head. If Hitler escaped, he wouldn't have been the only Nazi who was looking at the rope if discovered. Do you really think that upon his death, those around him would say, "Here we all are, down in South America at the Nazi outpost."

quote:

Being the known ego maniac that he was, why wouldn't he arrange for that?

Couldn't tell you, but at the rate he appeared to be going, he may not have been able to arrange to have his arse wiped.

If you're talking about that show, I agree. It sounds like a convention of evolutionists, piling supposition on top of supposition, on top of ambiguous evidence, on top of hearsay, then declaring that there can only be one conclusion. It's fairly comical, but it is interesting if you watch it without any preconceived notions or dog in the fight.
