Oh I think I see what you're saying. So like 3 would be represented by your Velcro shoes and 4 would be your favorite wall to lick. So 3+4 would equal 7, or "don't touch your naughty parts in public". So it's math and life lessons, seems like good stuff.

I can add them in my head, but I have to actually add them. I can't just look at it and instinctively know the answer.

Chinese kids can look at 2 3 digit numbers and add them in there head while I have to use touch points.

You can teach yourself this:

-Learn to use an abacus/soroban.
-Practice as much as those kids are forced to (a couple of hours a day for months).
-Once you get good at it you'll find yourself just visualizing moving the pieces.

Basic math will be your bitch at that point; but now people will see you waving your fingers through the air as you visualize the abacus and think you look like a moron.

I see a problem with your reading comprehension. He's talking about when he was in Kindergarten 20 years later.

Well it's not possible for you to compare your success (presumably career related) to mine considering you don't know how successful I am. Your inability to follow a logical thought process is not surprising given your poor education.

Touch points, Velcro, favorite walls, or even an abacus can't help math dyslexia.

I just google imaged it and it seems like it's a memory aid for

I'm not sure WTF this has to do with addition, I guess you count the dots. But different people learn differently so I have no problem with this vs. say tick marks for understanding the numeric value of a number. But if the OP never left the dot counting behind, that's pretty bad. That's like not being fluent in a language. Someone who's bilingual and fluent in Spanish doesn't have think in English first and then translate that to Spanish, they just start speaking Spanish. If you're fluent in basic math you should just know 4 + 2 = 6 and not be counting dots. The dot counting should be going on at a deeper level you're not even aware of.

I'd imagine there is some mom on Facebook fussing about common core math while saying "what's wrong with the way we used to do things with touch points." Hopefully people are laughing at her. That is some ridiculous shite.

Yea when there are two numbers you just count all the touch points. During every day life, I add using memory. It's just when I'm in an important situation, I will revert back on long numbers.

If this is causing you problems or stress at work then the answer is doing what you did to learn in the first place, practice. There's probably some decent free math apps out there.

People bitch about common core math but they don't realize most use it daily.

For example, buying two items one cost 27 dollars, the other 23 dollars.

Most people logically do 20 + 20 = 40 , then 7 + 3 = 10 , which gives 40 + 10 = 50.

Now some smart arse is gonna say NO NO NO I just add 27 and 23! I will challenge you to catch yourself doing exactly what I just showed at some point in the next week.

Common core math, by and large, is a much better way to learn math that what people were taught 20+ years ago. Parents often don't understand it so they bitch, but it's better for kids in the long run.
