Do you mean “hear?”

People hear words being spoken, not see them.

No... I'm from the south where it's normal for black and white kids to be friends.....

What is hard to pronounce about tyshawn? What kind of a racist OP is this?

I have magic goggles that let me see visually the words that are being said. Your mom gave it to me last Christmas.

In LA the teachers from out of state can't pronounce half the names regardless of race.

Hebert
Robert
Langois
Robichoux
Etc

My favorite was when a teacher not from South Louisiana would pronounce Melancon. They pronounce it Melon-con

Hell, I have a very normal first name spelled a very normal way and every year at least once it would be mispronounced by the teacher.

Why the down vote for a normal name?

Liberal mindset: When a white teacher mispronounces a black student’s name it’s racist. When a black teacher mispronounces a white student’s name it’s hilarious and no one gets offended.

Why do they always have to have ethnic names instead of normal American names?

The area I grew up in had a lot of people with Polish descent, which was pretty funny when a first time teacher had to read off the names. Pretty funny watching them try and pronounce Michalkiewicz

Two of those names have a long history tied back to a particular culture that is probably well known. One of them is basically made up and only been around since maybe the 70's or so. But that's besides the point. The other last names get butchered constantly too. No one can say my last name correctly.

The first two names may be longer, but they are pretty easy to phonetically sound out.

Now, it's a pretty safe bet that Tyshawn is pronounced Tie-shawn. But it could also be Tuh-shawn. Sounds like the teacher was just trying to be respectful.

TL;DR...stop being offended by everything.

Tyshawn is a more familiar sounding name to me than Wiznowski, and I'm white.
