Gf is in the process of moving in now. She has yet to realize that she is moving into a fully furnished house, and wants to jam all of her stuff in here. Pain in the arse now, but since she has been staying here for a few months, it'll be fine when it's over

Same. Besides why the big urge to live with someone you’re about to, theoretically, live the rest of your life with?

Recent studies show it's not so much living together before marriage that leads to divorce, but the age at which a couple decides to take that step. The younger the couple, the more likely they are to break up.

ETA: Got married at 23. Lived together 6 months before that. Still married 36 years later.

What if she liked to conserve water by not flushing turds? Then, you'd have turds scattered throughout the house. Can't unsee that

I feel like I'd notice that, even if we didn't live together.

I had this one girlfriend, whose parents conserved water by not flushing when they peed. It was fricking gross and I told her that

We lived together for 3-4 years before getting engaged. But we moved across the country together so to live separately would have made zero sense, financially or otherwise.

Ha, I've never heard that story but I have a friend who has that issue. I thought he was the only one. Apparently there are other people with stretched out assholes.

Lived together with wife for 4 months before wedding for 3 reasons:

1) Because her roommate found another place and 4 months from wedding it didn't make sense to look for a new roommate.

2) save money

3) to make sure she wasn't a disgusting heathen that reuses towels after bathing.

Been married 18 years.

The cohabitation did not begin until back from the honeymoon and by then, it was too late.

It actually didn't smell. I think maybe they flushed 1 out of every 2 times they peed or some shite. Whatever it was, it was gross. I went to pee, and I peed on pee and I got grossed out

I'm not married or engaged, but I've been with my S.O. for almost 10 years now. We were financially ready to buy a house, and the perfect situation arose. It is somewhat of a newer house, but was not taken care of by some renters. We got it at a great price and we have agreed to take our time to fix it up ourselves. If it is fiscally responsible and the right timing why wait to get married before buying the right house with someone you know you marry. Who cares if the town gossipers talk about "living in sin" It's just an outdated way of doing things.

It's irresponsible not to live with someone prior to marriage, imo.

I’m not so sure. It was roughly around the 1960-70s that the practice of living together before marriage started to become popular. It was also about this time that divorce rates started to explode.

This graph shows the growth of unmarried couples living together.

I think there’s other factors involved, including the overall moral decay in American society that’s been going on since the 60’s. But if you’re just looking at the stats, you can’t claim it’s “irresponsible” to not live together before marriage. There’s simply no evidence to back up that claim.

Second wave feminism, baw. That's the reason for divorces skyrocketing.

Yeah much smarter to just make every life change at the same time and then realize it sucks to live together after you're already married instead of before.

Both the husband and wife will try harder to stay together once they are married. But if yall are just dating and living together forget about it. After the first big fight you will be thinking about making an exit because it would be simpler to do that instead of working on saving the relationship.
