A worked for a guy who spent 20 years in the Coast Guard on the west coast of USA. He loved his time there and now lives in San Ramon.

I didn't, one of my buddy's son is in the Coast Guard. He seems to love it.
He is a good kid and want to make a career out of it.

I have, still do.
I went to every recruiter out of high school and was sold on the fact that they actually do their job daily instead of practicing for what may eventually happen.
Been stationed in Biloxi, Yorktown, Cuba, Kuwait, Bahrain and now Nola

Have you ever busted a smuggler in one of those homemade submarines?

I have not on any live operations. I have more experience with the Dhows in the Middle East. But I have trained in a few at the training center in S.C.

Alaska Louisiana Texas Mississippi. Also made a deployment to the Middle East. Loved it! I advise any kid 17-18 to join if just the reserves. Helps pay for college and if that’s not for them they can join active and go back to school later or while they are in. It’s a satisfying service.

A marine told me one time he wished he had gone Coast Guard, because they rescue people daily. He said it seemed like it would’ve been more rewarding than his time in the Middle East.

My father did. He spoke well of it. Was stationed in Miami Beach during the Vietnam war. Trying to talk my kid into joining the Coast Guard reserves. Not making much progress though lol

Met some Coasties in Baghdad. They were doing some sort of river operation training with the Iraqis.

Father did for 30 years. NOLA, Miami, Portland, Corpus, Cleveland(those are just the stations during my 17 years at home) He turned it into a nice gig after retirement, MSO with all the USCG certifications, lots of oil rich countries wanted him to come over and do some work.

My brother in law was a Coastie. Stationed somewhere in New Orleans. He said they played a lot of basketball and fished the occasional dead body out of the water.

My BIL is in the Coast Guard and likes it. He has been in San Diego, Alameda, Keys, Bahrain, and some others. He is currently in San Antonio (he is in intelligence work and that is all I know about it
)
