Yeah, wasn't he the guy the Repubs used in a negative election ad back in the 80's?

You mean he defeated those that opposed giving up their lands and allowed those who submitted to live. Then screw them all later...

I thought Andrew Jackson gave the Indians a safe space. Shouldn't we celebrating that?

Andrew Jackson knew what the job of president was. Was he a nice guy? Not terribly no.

I'm Cherokee, and the trail was a dark time. At the same time, I understand why it was done. Jackson gave my people options, and we didn't take them. So he did what he thought was best. He had the might to make that decision stick, and we didn't do what we should have to forge a true nation to stand against it. Such is the lesson of history.

He should be remembered best as the only president in the history of this country to get it completely out of debt, even if it was only for a short while. We will never see this again.

I can already see it now.... "The constitution is invalid, as 'my people' we're not represented writing it".

This country is so pathetic these days.

A British officer fricked with young Andy in or about Jackson's house during the American Revolution. He held a major erection towards the Brits his whole life.

A bad, bad dude.

PS: If he is presently sentient and could contact us from beyond the veil and ask for one thing, I am sure it would be for is to rename the Capitol of Mississippi ANYTHING else.

Jackson was a bad arse, wasn't incredible smart. As President in the 1830s, he still believe the world was flat.

Holy shite, before it was Jackson Square it was called the Place d'Armes:

From wiki:
quote:

The Place d'Armes was the site for public execution of criminals and rebellious slaves during the 18th and early 19th centuries. After the 1811 German Coast Uprising, three slaves were hanged here. The heads of some of the executed rebels were put on the city's gates.[5]

Yeah, I doubt that anyone in this thread posting accurate information about Jackson went to a public school. Couldn't have.
