Dick’s Sporting Goods won’t be returning their unsold assault-style rifles to manufacturers. Instead, the company says it’s chosen to destroy all of them.

Dick’s announced in February ? following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida ? that it would stop selling assault-style rifles and high-capacity ammunition magazines in all of its Field & Stream stores, where these items had been sold by the large sports retailer.

The company also announced that it would no longer sell guns to people under the age of 21 at any of its stores.

A company spokeswoman told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette last week that the retailer was “in the process” of destroying the unsold inventory of rifles, which include AR-15s and other military-style semi-automatic weapons, at its four distribution centers nationwide. The National Rifle Association, in a Tuesday Twitter post, lambasted the company’s decision to destroy the weapons. “What a waste,” the gun group wrote.

The NRA and other gun-rights advocates have assailed Dick’s for taking a political stance that could end up hurting its business, with some calling for a boycott of the retailer. But the company’s stock price has remained relatively unchanged since February.LINK

That's going to be a nice tax write off for them for FY2018, may even counterbalance the stock price drop from the negative press.

oh man, walmart should stop selling beer because of drunk drivers killing people on the roads while we're at it.

A bunch of dickheads at Dick's. I'm glad I never shopped there.

Dicks is choosing to do this, so I am fine with it.

Government isn’t making them, it’s their business.

I fully understand no longer ordering additional inventory and to eventually stop selling them but why destroy the remaining guns?

Well, except it's not a private business.

Like the manufacturers would've taken them back anyway. Wouldn't surprise me if Dick's tried to get RA's on the leftover inventory and manufacturers told them to frick off since they want to jump on the anti-gun virtue signaling bandwagon.

You can write off the deliberate destruction of your own inventory?

Its a public PR play.

They saw a big uptick in free-press and popularity among anti-Trump people. This is just milking that a little bit more. I'm sure the cost is negligible to them in the grand scheme.

They are getting sued for this, and they are going to lose.

Which is ridiculous.

Let the free market play out. If a bar doesn't want to sell alcohol to anyone under 45 years old, let them.

I believe that was just a poor troll attempt... because the answer is no.

They should rebrand their stores to

Vagina's Sporting Goods.
