The part that is retarded is that we have an open container law, yet we allow drive through daiquiri stores.
That little piece of tape ain't gonna stop shite.
Get rid of one or the other.
Well it's not like a cork, can tab, or bottle cap is going to stop anyone from drinking while they drive either, but we can buy any other sort of alcohol to take home with us.

My favorite fiction author James Lee Burke rants about dtds all the time in his books. Even wrote one about a carload of New Iberia girls who get daiquiris and flip their vehicle. He abhors them. He is a recovered alcoholic.

I get it, and I agree.
The difference is pretty obvious, IMO.
Just being honest, I don't know a single person that waits to drink a daiquiri until they get home. Who among us can resist that frozen goodness?
Yet, we can't have open containers, so the little piece of Scotch tape is the barrier.
Just seems kinda like BS to me...

If they ever get rid of drive through daiquiri stands I will self immolate on the steps of the state capitol building.

But where is the BS? That a tab of tape "protects" the establishment from a violation? Or that you can't drink a beer on the way home?

How many people do you know that pick up a 24 at a gas station that wait until home to open it? For me, every single person I've ever known that bought a 24 at a gas station opens it up when they get in the car
There is no difference

I used to get one for the ride home everyday . Sometimes two depending on how bad my day was. Had a store right down the street from work. Guzzle guzzle.

I'm in Baton Rouge and no drive-thru stands that I know of here. But the rare time that I get a daiquiri, it goes in the cup holders in the backseat. I'm not getting some bullshite ticket/charge since they don't tape them up. And I never drink it while driving. I would get brain freeze and kill someone.

So... what good is eliminating the 'drive thru' part going to do? People are still going to do the same exact thing, except they'll have to go in to get their daiquiri to drink on the way home. If anyone wants to get their drink on, that's not going to stop them.

My step-dad used to drink a daiquiri and a 6 pack on the ride home every day. He has been sober for 19 years now. He saw a girl last year that worked at the daiquiri shop that long ago, and she remembered him by what he drank

How many drive through daiquiris would it take for you to hit it?

No, that's fine. They are doing what they they should do per the law. That said, as a practical matter, the tape is quickly removed.
The BS is that everyone pretends that the the drink isn't being consumed ASAP.
Of course, the store is in the clear, unless they over-serve.

That is against the law now, correct?

It's against ordinance/law in EBR to serve alcohol via drive-thru.
It's actually against the law for daiquiri places in EBR to let you take them to-go, but no one stops you, hence why they don't bother taping it up.
It's possibly to have both a retail and on-premise license though, I believe Red Zeppelin does, which they use to serve growlers of beer to-go. Tin Roof does as well, which is why you can buy 6-packs or growlers, but they shrink-wrap the growlers to seal them. Not that that would stop anyone from popping open a can or tearing the shrink-wrap off if they wanted to.
