Younger people nowadays have no idea how easy they can get information.
Had card catalogs to find books. The library was actually important.
Had 3 TV channels
Had to listen to the radio for current latitude/longitude to update your hurricane tracking chart you got from school
No rain radar. The TV weather segment was really important to listen to.
No YouTube to find out how to fix shite. You learned with books and watching someone in person do it.
Paper maps in cars.
Had to use pay phones to call anyone.

The card catalog!
With the Dewey Decimal System, you didn’t need the card catalog as much. You just had to know what topic you were looking for and go to that section of numbered books. Fiction books typically would have their own section outside the Dewey Decimal System and be sorted by the Author’s last name.

Funny thing is when I needed to create a simple inventory system sku numbering system I innately created it like the DDS. I'm young/old enough to have been taught it, but then it fazing.
I didn't catch it, but when I tried to explain it to the older crew they had no problem with it understanding it, "ohh so the DDS, got it" and just went on their way. But the younger folks I have to explain it a tad bit more if I ask if they are familiar with DDS, and I get a blank face.

I sell the software that replaced the Dewey Decimal system.

I prefer Dewey to the Library of Congress system.

No mention of where to find the topics of scissoring or performing the rusty trombone covered, not exactly what one would describe as a robust system.

Got a work around for me to check out of the reference section?
A lot of libraries let you take a reference book home for one day - you’d need to ask

This is a bit harsh. English is clearly not his first language.
