Destin is the Daytona of the panhandle.
A place you go to party when you’re young and stupid. But once you get older you realize holy crap this place sucks.

Is AJ’s still a thing?
There was a time in the early to mid 2000’s where really long lines of people would be trying to get into that place

That's what happens when DeSantis runs things. He runs them into the ground

Destin didn't just turn from a paradise to a dump in the last year. A decade ago it had already seen its best days

It took a major downturn during the pandemic when all the trashy people from all over the South were getting paid more to do nothing than they did when they were working. They were flowing into Destin big time. At one point the city completely ran out of marlboros.

I know exactly what you mean and I totally agree.

The whole city just couldn't go on without you. They've all been in a deep depression since you left

Is Destin what we pass going to 30A ?

What's the issue? I haven't been to Destin in years, but from the sounds of things it seems like a more popular area than ever.
I think it is as popular as ever, just with a different set of people (the people that don’t want to pay to go to 30a).
We go to Rosemary Beach every couple years, and instead of going directly to i-10, I’ll drive to Pensacola back through Destin for nostalgic purposes because my parents took us there for 15 years. It’s weird. There’s plenty of construction going on, but it feels frozen in 2002 when you drive through.

Destin has been the new Panama City for awhile now.

It doesn't have the commercial garbage that most other beach places do. Bring your own groceries if you plan to cook any in the rental. There are 2 small grocery stores but their prices are double, to triple, of a regular grocery store. There are a few mom-and-pop bars/restaurants, but no chain stuff.
Nice beaches, quiet and laid back.

We were in Orange Beach in July and really enjoyed it. We were on 30A last weekend and enjoyed it as well. We drove into Destin for lunch one day and didn’t notice any real changes from last year. I think the OP just use a bunch of words to tell us he has a beach house.

I will say, the clientele at those putt-putt/go-cart places is pretty rough.

Tonight at 10: man realizes summer town isn’t as commercially friendly in the offseason.
