Keeping up with the Joneses has become much more complicated—and expensive. Couples must spend more to climb the social ladder, which could help explain why they’re having fewer children.

“The areas were we see the greatest declines in fertility are areas with modern labor markets that have intense competition for jobs and an overwhelming diversity of consumer goods available to signal well-being and social status,” says Paul Hooper, an anthropologist at Emory University and senior author of the study. “The fact that many countries today have so much social inequality—which makes status competition more intense—may be an important part of the explanation.”

There's a great case study on an indigenous tribe in the Amazon, and these factors' effects on them. I didn't want to copy/paste so much, though.

General conclusion, bigger shithole society, more kids. This is probably something that most of us already believed.

Seems like the movie “Idiocracy” was dead on and quite prophetic

"Population replacement" is immigration propaganda. Socialists want a huge reduction in the global population, and to destroy the West.

If you’re married and don’t want kids you have to give your husband a pass to bang a pregnant lady. He can’t go his whole life without experiencing one of God’s greatest gifts.

I mean at least you're honest, but most of that stems from wanting to do whatever it is you want to do. It's a self-centered culture. All animal species except us see the need to reproduce with the best mate for the survival of the species. As it is now, we're on track to breed ourselves into extinction because degenerates are overwhelmingly diluting the gene pool.

I didn't necessarily want the responsibility of a child, but I know it's my duty to reproduce as dual graduate degree parents with few health issues in our family.

That looks like a map that would be identical to maps depicting survival rates to adulthood and access to contraceptive measures.

I expected to see results of striation within countries, controlling for these variables, not grouping entire countries.

bullshite data cherry-picking study is bullshite.

Well, it is from 2016. They didn't know very much about scientific studies back then.

Abortion, and gay rights has more to do it than "keeping up with joneses". Yes it is more expensive to have children, and thats a huge factor for smart people that have to provide for their own family. Poors that get money per children have more incentive to have more.

Women going to work, and not wanting children until later in life ie 30s also makes a difference.

Anyway, the "keeping up with the joneses" piece is BS. Promotion of killing babies, and homo sex are clearly pushed by the left since they are on the "overpopulation" kick.

This is the reason Putin, didnt want homo activists at the Olympics, as it counters his push to increase russias birth rate. He ran on it to get elected with saying the govt will pay couples to have a 3rd child. Russia is worse than us, and couldnt go to war against us if they wanted to.

True, but there is most likely some validity to the OP's premise. Having kids gets in the way of fancy vacations and expensive toys, and urban progressives are well known for valuing such frivolities.

, no.

Sub-Saharan Africa has a replacement rate of roughly 2.4. The premise of the OP is still sound.

Wealthier societies have lower birth rates. It was true in Roman times and still is.
