Lots of data out there that suggests depression and anxiety are linked with the rise of social media.

Probably. People are participating in fewer healthy outlets to the stress caused by work and social media too.

Mental health and physical health are directly related. Americans are getting fatter. Americans are getting more depressed.

Fatness ruins lives bros.

I've been trying to get the message out for awhile now.

I’ve had bouts with anxiety and depression. It’s not fun. It was never super serious, but I can tell you from experience laying awake at night running stuff through your head while your whole body is shaking isn’t fun.

Stress and work/life balance (or lack thereof) have a huge effect on this. If you’re one of those people that can just turn it off when you walk out the door, I truly envy you.

Well, they’re running for their lives right now. All that adrenaline leaves no room for depression.

People use this term for everything now. If the line at Starbucks is too long: "I'm depressed." Sometimes it's real, many times it's not. The term has become meaningless.

This is true. People have a rough week, like everyone does from time to time. They have been dealing with "depression". How many people who claim to be depressed are actually medically diagnosed?

I mean when you see guys chugging beers off a girl's tits and you are sitting on the couch. Yea, that might cause some depression.

But seriously social media has to be the main suspect here. People post photos of extravagant vacations or cool activities they are doing and it will never be possible for a large majority of the population.

I suffer from depression, but it isn't that bad and I'm not medicated. I just started working out more and surrounding myself with positive energy and I haven't had any problems since. Alot of depression is brought on by worry. Finances, past mistakes, health issues, etc. can all contribute. Time spent thinking about the bad will drag you down deeper. Spending time improving your health and eating right helps tremendously.

There are literally 6 apps that a guy/gal can find sexy time on if they feel that bad about life. Heaven forbids they actually have a GF/BF.

Correct. Most of these studies also cite the need for instant gratification and a culture of comparison that social media provides.

The biggest problem is our rampant fraud marketing, massive corporate packaged gluttony, and extreme ignorance.

In America we have people believing:

A footlong sandwich covered in mayonnaise with a side of chips and a large soda from subway not only is healthy but also is an appropriate meal for a child.

A bucket of fried chicken from KFC is a family meal.

Genetics cause weight problems so there's no reason to diet or exercise.

It's not fast food. It's Wendy's.

Wraps are healthy no matter what's in them.

A salad is a healthy alternative even if covered in fried chicken, ranch, and croutons.

Eating fat makes you fat, so go ahead an eat all the sugar and carbs you want it'll never affect you.

A "kids meal" from a fast food restaurant containing no nutrition and 18000 mgs of salt and empty calories is good for kids.

Etc......

Personal responsibility plays a huge role in life but some Americans are so fricking stupid they need help. I believe the government should stay out of people's personal lives, but someone needs to give a basic education course on how calories, macros, good groups, and exercise effect the human body and mind. It should be taught to children.

Instant gratification, lack of meaning to their lives, no want for anything.

Scruffy has said it before, life is too fricking easy.

Kids aren’t allowed to have jobs anymore.

Social media is a cancer.

Everyone is creating events and situations of strife and chaos because they have no true controversy in their lives.

The media plays up every small event to push this mindset.
