As American and particularly United go to shite charging for things like carryons Delta continues to solidify itself as the best legacy carrier.

Cool! This is a good move and I hope the other carriers follow.

Interesting. Because as of now all United does is copy what Delta does. Just poorly.

I'll never forgive Delta for turning the Memphis airport into pure shite. Used to have flights all over the country and direct ones to Cancun, Amsterdam, and Paris, but now it's only to Atlanta, Detroit, and Salt Lake City. Used to be one of the best midsize airports in the country. But now it's mostly a ghost town with 500 flights a day to Atlanta.

Nice. I just booked a Delta flight 3 hours ago.

Not Deltas fault.
Memphis airport was a bad layout for a hub, difficult concourse structure for plane movements
And it was too close to ATL to justify keeping a hub there when it was cheaper to flow more to ATL
Or so Ive been told by pilots.

Memphis is a craphole airport that hasn't changed in 30 yrs until recently.
I wish Delta would start offering free WIFI on all trans pacific and atlantic flights. I doubt it ever happens since our internet addicted world has no problem paying $25 when on a 13 hr flight to Beijing.

Alaska already has free texting. You still have to pay for internet service though.

That is pretty awesome.
However I flew with American recently and they have vastly improved their service. International flights. I was surprised.

Is that really the fault of Delta?
Or is that Memphis is increasingly a less important regional city while other cities in the region expand their national and international presence?

Not enough O/D traffic to justify two hubs (three if you count CVG) in such close proximity.

MEM is no longer a Delta hub, but they do have non-stops to Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, New York, Cincy, and Orlando. I'm surprised they (Delta) don't have one to Seattle.
I do agree that they screwed up there. Delta has a service void in the middle of the US. They should have kept their hub in Dallas but they didn't.

Northwest ran a hub there for a long time. Delta shut it down after they bought Northwest.
Same thing American Airlines did in Pittsburgh after they bought US Airways.

Still cheaper and easier to fly southwest and pay for iMessaging

Southwest has been more expensive than the legacy carriers for me lately.

Texting on a plane is about #56 on the list of things I give a shite about while flying.

Plus, FedEx was crowding out flights.
