A new article on DailyMail.com claims to have insight into what led to Shannon Lamb's 'mental problems;' and it's a shocking accusation.

The news website ("separated editorially from the British newspaper") is reporting that "the rage that led gunman Shannon Lamb to kill his girlfriend and a fellow university professor is thought to have been sparked by a spider bite."

As far as we know, they are the only news organization making the claims.

They go on to report: "Dr. Lamb had become increasingly upset after a spider bite became infected and caused his face to swell, triggering a spate of mental health problems.

He became conscious of his bloated cheek, withdrew from work earlier this summer and failed to attend scheduled classes at Delta State University.
Seems a bit far fetched

During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, investigators said that on Monday morning, Lamb called to report the shooting of Prentiss at the home they shared in Gautier.

Lamb: Um. You need to send some units over to 2320 Santa Cruz.
Dispatcher: What’s going on there?
Lamb: I shot my wife last night.
Dispatcher: You said its 2320 Santa Cruz?
Lamb: Yes. There's a dog in the house. He’s a sweet dog and he won’t bother anybody but I’m sure he's upset.
Dispatcher: What is your name?
Lamb: Um. That’s all I feel like saying right now. Just go and take care of her. You'll find all of her family phone numbers in her phone. You can contact them.
Dispatcher: What is her name?
Lamb: Amy Prentiss.

Seems like he knew what would happen once LE showed up

More like he was in the midst of a depression/mental breakdown and was fighting with his gf. He killed her and in his wacked out state sought out the boss that he deemed partially responsible for the troubles in his life.

Well, it's definitely not a criminal defense strategy.

You realize he was sending the cops to the house with a dog?

That might not workout well.

My buddy has a story about a snake bite.

He knew a kid back home whose dad got bit by a snake. Guessing a moccasin or something common to the southeast. Say he was never really the same after the bite and a while later killed himself.
