Good maps comparing the winds of Delta and Laura. It shows both max wind and how far the wind field extended:

Legend, those are great maps. Couldn't find a link to them on NIST, is there a public link to the maps or discussion?

I don't know. Let me find the tweet I got them from. I meant to post it, too. I don't think there was a link, though.

Here's the tweet from Scott Weaver @ClimateWeave no link, just a mention of where he got it, but I didn't see a tweet from @NIST with the maps.

quote:

When compared to #HurricaneLaura, version 1 of the @NIST-ARA Hurricane #Delta wind maps show the areas that experienced destructive winds a mere 6 weeks apart. Wouldn't be surprised to see greater than expected damage in some regions given ongoing recovery from Hurricane Laura. LINK

Honestly, I’ve driven around a little bit and I haven’t seen any new significant damage. Trees have fallen on power lines but the damage is nowhere near what was “expected.”

Entergy is worthless. Claiming 25% of damage assessment is done and they won’t give an estimate until that is complete.

Just got the same text. Fortunately, I got power back about 845 last night in Moss Bluff.

Does it feel like they are giving out less information this go around?

I can’t tell if it’s that or if looking back makes it just seem like I knew a date the next day (even if it was off by a couple of weeks)

Entergy refused to give an estimate the entire time after Laura. Our power came back on and they still hadn’t given an estimate.

As far as power companies they’re about the best you can hope for but heck...%*%}* or get off the pot at this point

You never got one? I got like 3-4. It was a real kick in the nuts when you would get a text on the day you’re supposed to get power pushing the deadline back a week and a half.

Just got back home to LC because I was told I have power, and I do! First thing I did when I walked in was check my modem and every light was on, so cable too! Damn I do NOT want to have to move out again until I move for good. And if another of these bastards comes anytime soon that will be a real possibility.

For Laura in Church Point, we had power the next day and I believe their automated message had at least given an estimate. This go round they won’t say shite, and an hour ago they tweeted historically category 2 hurricanes can cause up to 10 days of outages.

They have the information, they’re just assholes and won’t share it. CP’s mayor posted on their FB page that transmission stations on both ends of town are down, and once those are fixed they’ll work their way to us. So I expect to not have power for a while.

It would appear that once transmission is back up, as well as distribution, you will have power.
