This. And it's not a Delta or an airline rule, it's an FAA requirement.

there's no doubting the brain drain of common sense impacting the airline industry.

not so much, when you step onto an airliner, you enter an entirely different domain with significantly different rules/rights than on the outside, the airlines are actually pretty lenient and put up with a lot more shite than they have to, mainly because they are in the business of selling tickets, what we're seeing here is just the wearing off of the effects of 9/11, for years after that, passengers began to act civilized and paid attention to how other passengers acted, and in a couple of cases, and on the darling airline of the OT, Southwest no less, passengers misbehaving were actually killed by other passengers because they feared a threat to their safety, people have either just become numbed to 9/11, or have simply forgotten about it

Eh, sometimes you only have control over *where* and not *whether* you are using the bathroom. Delta is lucky he made the right call.

Perhaps he did piss before boarding the plane and has a medical condition that causes him to have to go very frequently. It's not that uncommon you know.

Airline toilets are designed to operate using the pressure differential at altitudes, not a siphon pump as many RVs. Look close at a jet and you will see a small air-door on the fuselage hole near the lavatories areas.

Had he used it on the ground, functionality could an issue, especially if he took a shite or threw tissue in the toilet. This could make for an unusual flight for the rest of the passengers.

This is, primarily, why they don't allow the use of toilets at the gate and definitely on an active taxiway. So, use the bathroom at one of the hundreds in the airport.

However, the airline crew needs to do a better job explaining things.

Are you saying airlines do not use vacuum toilet system? That's news to me.

If I'm playing on the defense of Delta and protocol, I do understand the reasoning behind it. If you're trying to think of worst case scenario, why would a person want to go to the bathroom right before take off? inb4 he's not a terrorist! I know he probably meant no harm and obviously just needed to take a piss, BUT protocol is protocol for a reason. Maybe be an adult and go before you board the plane. a 30 minute delay shouldn't be the threshold of not being able to hold it. hell, even if I don't have to go I always try and push something out. who wants to use the bathroom in a small arse space with unknown turbulence?

I'm not mad at delta for this.

Maybe he was late on a connecting flight or got held up by the tits on a boar hog TSA, barely made it on and didn't have time to piss.

Do you think him not in his seat on an active taxiway makes a difference if there is a collision or if the plane starts moving a bit?

Not necessarily - I, too prefer Southwest. Any airline has good and bad staff, but in general the Southwest staff treat their passengers with respect and they are much more congenial.

Some of the other airlines are arrogant, probably because of the power that they possess since 9/11. It's a business and they are employees who should make their customers feel comfortable and appreciated.

couldn't be a more inaccurate misconception

largely they do just that, and they do a great job of it considering the what they have to put up with

what makes the news are pretty remote instances considering the incredible about of cattle, er, people being moved all over the world

Ehhhh...you have to feel that way, it's your business.
After flying several times a week for the past year - I'm basing this opinion on experience.
- not what is in the news.

It said they were going to arrest him because they had reports of him being unruly which he obviously wasn't. Airline crews tend to put passengers in 2 boxes, obedient and out of control. They seldom employ common sense.

no, I really don't

and that's another thing that tends to magnify the misperception, infrequent fliers that may have what they consider to be an unpleasant experience, then make the assumption that this whole flying thing just sucks, based on an isolated incident(s)

It does. However, in fairness, the actual flying part is usually OK enough.
