Jury selection is set to begin Monday, October 14, 2024 in trial of Richard Allen, who is charged in the 2017 murders of Libby German and Abby Williams.

Trial will not be televised. Suffice it to say that between the defense’s shenanigans and YT sensationalism the judge ruled against cameras in the courtroom. It will be enough of a media circus without them.

Allen has allegedly confessed multiple times to jail employees and in recorded phone calls with his wife and mother.

UPDATE: If you know of or find good links or social media accounts following the trial, post link and I will add to the OP. I am going to look for X feeds from local journalists and will post links when I find them.

I didn’t think about Columbus Day but apparently they are going on with the trial, barring unforeseen delays.

Oh wow they finally found a suspect? I remember this internet mystery when it hit.

quote:

His attorneys said someone else killed the girls and outlined their theory that a group of Odinists, a pagan Nordic religion, co-opted by white supremacists was responsible.

I wonder what their poli board handles are.

quote:

But Judge Fran Gull, assigned to the case by the Indiana Supreme Court, ruled last month to keep Allen's defense team from presenting its alternative theory about the murders.

Jokes aside, that's fricked up.

Your pure hatred for people on the right is spiraling out of control. It’s time for some CBT and benzos.

Kevin Kline is indeed on the defense witness list. He’s sitting in prison for 40ish years, so he has nothing better to do.

Surprisingly good summary. Those news articles are usually lacking for lack of a better term.

So he killed them with a box cutter to slit their throats but left an ejected unused 9mm bullet next to their bodies?

The unspent round is definitely strange. It’s been heavily speculated that the video Libby captured of Bridge Guy has more audio than “guys, down the hill” and is rumored to have the girls saying he had a gun. Unless it’s some weird signature, if you will, it otherwise could be that it was ejected during the crime (for whatever reason) and he forgot about it or couldn’t find it to retrieve it. Or he could have had extra ammo in his pocket that fell out during the melee. Either way the state alleges that ejection marks match his handgun.

The official investigative narrative is that Allen contacted law enforcement the day after the murders to say he had been on the trail that day but didn’t see anything, possibly in an attempt to cover himself in case someone else recognized him, as there are several witnesses who saw him that day.

However, this was before LE released the video and stills, so he presumably was not aware that Libby had used her phone to record anything. The phone was later found at the crime scene under one of their bodies.

At that time he was interviewed by a conservation officer (game warden) assigned to help follow up on tips, but the report was “lost” or just overlooked by LE until some time in 2020-21 when the investigative team went back to square one and began to comb through every tip and report from the early days. When they found the report and ran his name they found out he had a handgun that matched the type of bullet found at the scene. This was part of the probable cause affidavit submitted to obtain the search warrant of his house.

Law enforcement and prosecutors have played this case very close to the vest, so there should be a lot of previously undisclosed evidence presented at trial.
