I like seeing so many people I know when I go there, but there's also a lot of try-hards at that place.

Pretty much. You had morons getting in fights, peeling out to leave tread marks on the road as people are walking past, etc.

The crowds killed downtown. I dont want to hangout with those people.

I've been in BR since 2004. 21 years old since 2008. The crowds downtown now are almost the same as I remember then.

The hipsters aren't downtown since red star closed, Happys is more popular and there is currently no black club. Everything else about the crowd feels the same.

Friend of mine calls it the try hard bar.

Its just a running joke now that we refer to every one and everything about the place as trying hard

They make a damn good sazerac, though, so I have to give credit where credit is due. My only problem with the place is that other than drinking and talking, there's no other "draw" to that place. Sure, the music is better than most bars, but there's no love bands, no food service (usually) no pool tables, and no tv's, which made me feel awkward going there alone when I lived within walking distance. I feel like the only reason I could possibly have to be there is to drink or eat the free food on Sundays.

The first cracks on 3rd Street were when the Lava Cantina idiots bought Roux House and Lucy's with the promise of turning them into Lava Cantina Downtown

I always thought Lucy's should have stayed. I'm sure their revenue dropped when they lost their status as "the night club" on weekend nights, but their business always looked sustainable and brought something to the area.

And they have some aversion to closing the damn garage doors and turning on the A/C in the summer so the places is a damn sauna with no circulation.

The first time I went there was one of my first experiences downtown ever. It was like a Wednesday night. My friend parks the car, we walk up and down a few places then she said let's check out that bar by the car. We walk in with not a clue and quite literally were the only white people in the place. We sat had about 2 drinks (not bad actually), get back in the car and both just look at each other and go "Did you notice...".

Yeah the no TVs through me for a loop I went there by myself once and kept looking up expecting a TV while I was at the bar and had the bartenders as me 100 times whether I needed something because they thought I was looking at the menu. Never realize how important a TV in a bar is until there isn’t one

You know they could get a 1 hole punch and just carefully line it up 3 times. It’s not the easiest thing but I’ve done it on numerous occasions. I wouldn’t think they’d be punching more than 15-30 pages while on vacation.
