Defund police movement

Where I live in Little Rock Ar, 4 Walmart stores and the Sams club closed today because of protesting. I'm seeing signs and chants on Twitter of "defund the police", which brings up an interesting thought.
I don't know if you have to actually defund the police. Police work is starting to look like a terrible profession to be in particularly with how police are currently scrutinized. Many large police departments stay understaffed as it is. The question is how many good officers leave the profession altogether either by firing, resigning or retiring? And where do enough new quality recruits come from in the coming years? I used to want to be a cop and could have if I wanted it badly enough. But, I wouldn't have that job now even if it paid a 6 figure income.
I believe in years past, enough people wanted a career in law enforcement to adequately staff most agencies. Looking in to the future, I don't know as that law enforcement is going to be viewed as an attractive enough career to adequately staff many city and county agencies.
There may be some major changes coming in the next several years to the entire law enforcement process.

I hope they have pilot cities.

It’s possible this might turn around. With a little PR and after everything cools down, there may be a different sentiment about them since they’re taking so much shite right now. A new appreciation maybe. It’s possible no?

I know most of you youngsters on here are way too the right and don't like unions, but I swear now would be the time for all police unions to go on strike and lets separate the wheat from the chaff.

Defund the police. Who the hell will the state and local leaders have left to protect them from the lawless citizens who disagree with their political views and policies? It’s plain stupid. But if most politicians had a brain they would be doing something else.

Elections matter.
We are all hoping that the backfire from the propaganda based on these exploited incidents is voter turn out.
If 65-75% of voters actually turned out and voted in local elections and run offs I am certain that some of these frauds would not be in positions of power with billions of dollars under their control and 1,000's of employees following their demands.

Defunding the police might work If you strategically cordon off areas of town where crime is already high. Let them figure it out themselves, and maybe parachute in a pallet full of black tar heroin and cocaine and let them just kill themselves.
Oh yeah, put it on pay-per-view TV to generate extra income for the cops who do want to keep their jobs.

I like the idea of pilot cities. Once the pilot cities are known I will avoid them at all cost.
Out of a whole basket of bad ideas defunding police has to be at the top of the heap.
Better off to have fewer but higher quality highly trained cops than cutting back on training dollars or salaries.
If anything defunding private security details for elected officials would free up police for patrol duty.

I'm more interested in what they mean when they say demilitarize the police. Chauvin had a pistol and was wearing a polyester suit, not very militarized.

This could happen. Similar to how Vietnam vets were treated early on, but then the pendulum swung back and military vets are now highly regarded.
