Do nurses make any decisions? I've asked this question in this thread several times.

Physicians and nurses play totally different roles in healthcare and they aren't comparable. Being a nurse does not train you to be provider.

I'm talking about you using your nursing experience like it's comparable to medical school and residency.

Cool, enjoy your career as a midlevel. I'll enjoy my career knowing that I have received the highest degree of education, training, and examination in anesthesiology. Thus, making me among the experts in anesthesiology and among the most suitable people to deliver anesthetic care in a solo environment, available any time of the day or night. A board certified anesthesiologist is a real asset to patient care and safety.

4 years of prereqs? You think I didn't take med school pre reqs. 60 hours of course work and an English major can apply to med school.

If I had a nickel for every time I saw a crna's face go white and stammer for someone to call the MD during an airway complication or cardiac event I'd be a rich man. The crna bravado evaporates during a real event in surgery and happens much more often than you think. All of the training and education that the resident crna's on this board claim is superfluous and unnecessary saves lives and prevents bad outcomes. An OR absolutely cannot function without it.

This thread is evidence of how fricked healthcare is and how by and large physicians are morons. We've alienated ourselves from patients and took a backseat while medicine went to crap.

Yeah, we all ride a stool all day long.

Do you even have the ability to read your post and take a moment to realize how arrogant and obnoxious it sounds. FWIW you guys here make me eternally grateful for the excellent docs I have been blessed with...

how can a physician that is not an anesthesiologist supervise patients with these types of comorbidities when they don't understand how anesthesia effects a patient's physiology?

This happens every single day in Louisiana. And I'm talking where an anesthesiologist isn't employed in the hospital. Promise. Not saying one way is better or I know more than an anesthesiologist but it happens. Also happens in many other hospitals in Louisiana, California, Indiana, Colorado, etc.

Nobody has ever said we know more than them....they consistently make it out that way.

What we are saying is we have and are capable with our training and education.

I was talking about the CRNAs I see, who can often be found sitting in the lounge or sitting on a stool in the OR. Sometimes I feel like it's pulling teeth for them to stay over and work (for which they will get paid extra) even 15 minutes or for them to go see their patient preoperatively. Not nurses elsewhere. Sorry to offend.

I agree healthcare is a huge mess right now. My bil was charged 30$ for a Tylenol during his wife's delivery. He called and complained and got it knocked down quite a bit. But it'll only get worse if Hillary is elected. Some professional have priced themselves out the market.

Let me guess, you have some story about how someone with half the training of their superior bumped him/her from the head of the bed and was the big hero. It's the bravado and the general thought that you don't know what you don't know that makes you so dangerous. It's a lot easier to have this attitude when there is always someone above you who is ultimately responsible. This whole argument reinforces the critical role of ethics in medical education.

Where do you sit when you do anesthesia? Or when you are in the lounge? You sound mad bro?

You are negating me to a percentage in practice that I'm not. I earn the respect of my fellow surgeons by performing anesthesia daily with them and handling the situations presented with the best of my knowledge.

I've made mistakes, learned from them.....you can't come in this thread speaking in absolutes and dropping extreme theologies to prove your point.
