Nearly 10,000 unionized workers at the agriculture equipment company Deere & Company – manufacturer of the popular John Deere mower – went on strike Thursday morning saying that the company failed to come up with a contract proposal that was satisfactory to the United Auto Workers union members.

It has been three-and-a-half decades since the last Deere strike, but workers have been feeling the pressure this year due to long pandemic hours and working for a company that is facing labor shortages, giving employees and their union a rare upper hand in negotiations.

honestly, Not sure where the money will come from as John Deere has a backlog of parts because of the supply chain affecting chip production. They are not hardly making anything new in months. Stopped by to look in June, they said they might have mowers by November.

I say this every time people push the $15/hr crap.
Everyone will want their wages raised. Not just part time cashiers.

They are striking but I bet they all make great salaries relative to most of us that aren’t unionized. And then they want even more.
They wonder why all the jobs are getting shipped overseas.

These baws need to worry more about not letting farmers work on their tractors.
Then maybe they could afford to pay their people a good wage.

These days the unions are getting ripped. All the non union plants in SWLA are paying higher than the union plants. They’ve long outlived their purposed, and they just breed lazy employees

Hate to say it. but Kubota > John Deere.

Good, shutdown the industry idiots. Don't even think about improving products either.

Unions protect bad workers and prevent new ones who are good from being hired.

It's sad because HRs have neutered unions. Unions can no longer discipline thier own and all they have left is defending the pieces of shite because the companies don't have enough of a paper trail yet.

Mowers are a small part of their business. They don't even manufacture the ones you see at HD.
Dated a girl for a while whose dad worked at the Waterloo Works.
He made pretty good money and was an old school "baw" drinking Busch Light while taking a load to the burn pile in his 25 year old F150.

The working man got the country by nutsack right now!
Look for this trend to continue.

That's what so many people don't seem to understand. If you pay the burger flipper $15/hr, the janitor currently making that will want/expect $17/hr. The shipping/receiving worker making that will now want $20/hr, and on and on and on.

Ordered three pieces of JD equipment back in February…was told last month they would be delivered the first week of November. I have little faith we will see them this year. This country is so fricked up.

This is confusing… Is the whole company going on strike, or just the mower division?
Weird thing to single out if it’s the whole manufacturing group, considering the mowers cost like 15k loaded out and cotton pickers and the X9 combines are bumping a million.

If you understand grammar it's not confusing at all.
