Read up on prions and you'll MAYBE think twice about even eating deer meat.

From a deer that tests positive? Maybe. It hasn't been shown to jump the species barrier, and it's been around for 50 years. There are almost assuredly people out there that have eaten infected deer meat without even knowing.

From any other deer? No.

Got mine the other day around 9 am. Having a euro mount done so I don’t transport and prions across state lines.

Prions are scary as shite. But there isn’t a single known case of CWD jumping the species barrier. I’d be more worried about CJD (mad cow) in beef since there are multiple documented cases in humans.

“It’s been around for 50 years”

Source? Not being a smart arse, just curious.
I have wondered if CWD hasn’t been in deer forever and just not recognized until recently.
I asked a biologist that very question and he admitted it was a possibility.

Irregardless of how anyone feels about baiting, banning it is a knee jerk reaction,IMO.
As others said deer congregate under white oaks, persimmon trees, etc.
Quite a few deer would also be exposed at scrapes also.

Not much chance I’ll quit deer hunting or eating venison.

Need to raise the limits and let the rednecks kill a couple million more of those bastards. I can’t drive 30 yards on the interstate without passing a small herd in MS or TN.

I always have a pretty hard time getting worked up by CWD. Yea it's bad but most places I've been at least in the south whether rural or big city were overpopulated as frick with deer

We simply don't kill enough of them and I'm surprised their population hasn't led to a worse disease than CWD. They are basically tame by my house and it's a very small town. They don't even run from vehicles anymore

The joe rogan episode on CWD was FASCINATING yet terrifying. It’s a must listen.

This has the potential to be like mad cow disease was to Europe.

Probably not to the point of whatever you are hinting at, but I know enough about it that, AGAIN, I'm not worried about eating a deer that doesn't have CWD.

I mean, if we really want to get crazy with this, considering prions are known to be able to survive in the ground, on vegetation, in water--why not just revise your statement to say no one would even want to go in the woods where deer are if the understood prions?

Living in fear of a disease that hasn't jumped the species barrier in 50 years isn't even living.

Merriam-Webster defines irregardless as "nonstandard" but meaning the same as "regardless." "Many people find irregardless to be a nonsensical word, as the ir- prefix usually functions to indicates negation; however, in this case it appears to function as an intensifier," the dictionary writes.

Not the same. Repeated baiting on the same spot is much different than when the occasional fruit hitting the ground.

Experts say it is from feeding bait corn that sits on the ground and starts to decay and get fungus and whatnot

I would NEVER hunt over corn, but I can tell you that corn doesn’t go uneaten for more than 3-5 days.
