I concur. It is imperative to know how much oil you need exactly. Put it in the pot slowww and steady and use all ppe you can using the correct tools.

We did it last year and it came out great.

Good luck.

A good practice is to put the turkey in the pot and then fill it with water. Then remove the bird. That's the level of oil you need. All these youtube fails people fill the pot with oil having no idea how much oil they need, get the oil hot, then drop the bird in which displaces the oil over the top of the pot catching on fire.

Also, cut the fire while you put the bird in. Then relight.

As much as I hate to say it... The greaseless fryers are just as good as Oil fryers. Less of a mess and danger for those who lack common sense

A huge false.
Tried it and not near as good

If you use common sense and caution, frying a turkey doesn't have to be more dangerous than anything else

15-20 years of frying turkeys for Thanksgiving and Christmas and we've never had any issues or close calls

The air fryers use infrared heat. I tried an air fryer last year (after using oil fryers for the past 10 or so) and I'm sold. It was easily just as good, if not better, than the turkeys I've done in oil. And it's MUCH less hassle, cheaper, and MUCH less cleanup.

I bought one yesterday. I’ve been using oil for the past few years. With all the other crap going on on T-giving morning, I hate fricking with peanut oil before and after. Looking forward to seeing how it does.

May I say this again?

How about once more?

Kind of, but it is different. The taste and texture is the same as a deep fried turkey, not like a oven roasted turkey.

What else have you cooked with it, and turned out as good or better than a regular oven, etc?

I'm always looking for a gift for my BIL, who is hard to buy for, cause whatever he decide he wants he just buys it, so "bringing something up" to gauge if he'd like it backfires a lot.

He loves cooking, and trying out new recipes. Has 3 green eggs, top of line grill/smoker, double ovens in their kitchen, etc. Everyone gets him a cooking toy, and rarely make the cut for long. So wondering if this can make the cut for regular use instead of just another thing stored away. I'll run it by my sister too, cause she doesnt want clutter, so she'll give me a green light or not. Ha.

Funny thing is the best thing I ever got him was one of those little 3' fat italian chef statues with a sign you can write the menu on in chalk. I found it for like $15 at a discount store yrs ago, and it sits on their kitchen counter ever since. Btw - I hate buying gifts cause of this kind of crap. I just give my family gift cards, and they are cool with it. Ha.

FIFY.
It's not the same. Really not even close.
We tried one a few years ago and immediately went back

Are you kidding me? We have a neighborhood tradition of males only turkey fry at the local park. The women think it takes as long to fry as bake.

We setup and start frying bacon at 5am and cook breakfast. No women, no dysfunctional family, no drama.

We leave fryers and oil to cool and split our separate ways. We return at 2pm to clean up and crack open bourbon and cigars if it hasnt been all ready.

The setup and cleanup is a part of the Thanksgiving tradition.

Lot of threads on people trying to cook something for the 1st time on the actual day of. That is a recipe for disaster. Always do a test run to work any bugs out.
