This will kill what is left of Ryan airport in BR. While MSY will hopefully get on International airport status. Bring on European airliners!!!

That combined with Virgin getting approval, assuming the city council doesn't frick it up, would help with better flight options.

I know it has nothing to do with Virgin Airliner company but Bronson and Virgin corp is building a hotel in the CBD. Should be breaking ground pretty soon Barrone and Lafayette.
Maybe an incentive for the future of Virgin airlines out of MSY.

They got rejected today. At least by the small council (6-1). Hopefully they can address the problems and get approved by the full.
Offering some direct or connecting flights to Heathrow should help win them over. That is what I was referencing.

I live on that block and okay with this for the time being. I've been listening to construction from the Hotel coming up and Carondelete and Lafayette before that the Drury expansion for 6 years now. How many hotel rooms does the city need?

According to Bywater hipsters, more. They are all pissy about the AirBnB's.

Some affordable direct flight to London would be legit!
The last two times I flew Internationally though was direct out of IAH with Turkish Airlines. I did not pay more than $800 for each round trip either.

Ha, I airbnb my spot a few times a year and never had any problems. IMO, people who want to stay in Bywater airbnb are pretty stupid. The only thing authentic about that area is getting robbed by your 12 year old neighbor.

So they're utilizing the Kansas City Southern Railway. Good choice.
Why do you say that? They've got some of the most piss poor quality rail I've seen on a Class 1.

Are they still planning on having 9 stops and it taking over an hour and a half?
Because that's fricking retarded.

Well this would be a great deal for them then...
quote:
“Existing freight rail infrastructure owned by Kansas City Southern and CN would be improved along the 80-mile corridor,” HNTB said. “Crossings would be upgraded and rail lines doubled in some sections to allow freight and passenger trains to move efficiently on the same lines. Many bridges would be strengthened or replaced so trains could travel at higher speeds. Replacing the 1.8-mile wooden rail bridge across the Bonnet Carre Spillway, where trains now crawl at 10 mph, is the largest capital cost, at $62.1 million.”
..I'd think they'd jump at the chance to get those improvements...

3-5 years away from more contracts given out to perform studies, you mean?

The recommended startup service would operate twice daily between the downtowns of Baton Rouge and New Orleans, a trip that would take one hour and 35 minutes with seven stops. A morning and afternoon train for commuters would start in each of the two cities on similar schedules.
HNTB met with civic and elected officials along the line to site potential train stations. Recommended stations would be at Government Street at South 14th Street near downtown Baton Rouge, at the medical corridor on Essen Lane, at East Cornerview Street near Gonzales City Hall, west of Main Street in LaPlace, adjacent to the Louis Armstrong International Airport in Kenner, at Zephyr Field in Jefferson Parish, and the Union Passenger Terminal station near the Superdome, where passengers can access the Loyola Avenue streetcar and other transit options.

Pass. You know it's going to get delayed to be over 2 hours and stopping 7 times between Nola and BR?
It's only 70 fricking miles. Stopping every 10 miles?
ETA:
Just read the proposed stops. All of them are within the cities of BR and NOLA?
Who designed this thing?

The time of one hour and 35 minutes is the total amount WITH the seven stops.
The train will be travelling at 79 MPH with no traffic to worry about. The people aboard will be able to eat and drink, work, or just chill.
Meanwhile, on I-10...

I used to catch crabs near that area and they go much faster than 10 mph. Well, at least they did years ago.

No, in fact only 2 of them are.
Suburban BR: St. George
Gonzales: Ascension Parish
LaPlace: St. John The Baptist Parish
Airport: Kennahbrah, Jefferson
Zephyr: Metairie, Jefferson

This. It often times takes an hour and a half to get from downtown BR to Gonzales

How much would it cost to ride said train one way.
$10/ticket was being thrown around when the plan was first floated. If it was clean and safe it would be great. BR needs to greatly improve CATS and build the downtown to LSU streetcar/BRT route for it to even have a shot at being successful. NOLA could improve its public transit, but it is miles ahead of BR.
