How much would it cost to ride said train one way.
I think I know where you're going with this...

Public transportation in Baton Rouge has seen a significant increase in utilization over the last couple of years after the CATS tax was enacted. If trends continue, traffic is expected to decrease by upwards of 65%.

Wont be utilized. White people in the south are disgusted by mass transit.
Yeah pretty much. Riding the public school bus was enough mass transit to last me a lifetime.

I would ride a train from Mandeville to New Orleans if one was built. Based solely on my own selfish reasons, that should be higher priorty over one linking to NO to BR.

Agreed

Remember, the proposed streetcar line in the Nicholson Drive corridor would be a big boost to rider ship...

What they need to do is study the Rail Runner system between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It has been operating successfully for 9 years.
They have sponsors like Sam's Club, Whole Foods, etc. They also have a good bus system that feeds into the rail and a competent board of directors comprised of city and county leaders in the communities between the two cities.
Unfortunately I don't see South Louisiana having any of the last two.

I remember the MagLev over the Lake idea from about 15 years ago.

Until fuel prices rise substantially and force it, this aggression will not stand.
There's not the support network once the riders get to their destinations.
Cabs, Uber, city buses, streetcars? While they might be there, they aren't cheap or necessarily convenient.

I'll take numbers pulled out of an arse for $100, Alex.

Who would want to leave New Orleans to go to Baton Rouge for anything less than an LSU football game?
Residents of Baton Rouge returning from visiting NO
people visiting friends and/or family.

They are still trying to plan something like that.
I've learned that projects like this in Louisiana are nothing more than pipedreams.

I think it will get more use than people think. I also think it will never happen.

I don't get why everyone gets a hard-on for having a stupid train running between BR and NOLA. Literally they could build a third lane on the interstate and completely solve any problems about commuting.

This would become the Baton Rouge terminus of the BR-NOLA rail link:
quote:
Entergy Gulf States Louisiana donated its long abandoned Government Street building to the East Baton Rouge Redevelopment Authority, spearheading a long-standing initiative to renovate the blighted Mid City Warehouse Design District and make it a gateway into Downtown Baton Rouge.
The 6-acre, 261,360-square-foot parcel, on Government, near Circa 1857, holds 11 buildings and was once home to the city's first electric railway service in the 1800's. An existing rail line borders the western edge of the property.

People who live in Baton Rouge who's flight landed in New Orleans.
Business travelers bound for BR who's flights went to MSY instead of BTR due to cost.
