Lol sorry about the first thread title, hit wrong button then lost service. The thieves got me for about $1500 today. I assume it was a scanner at a gas pump. Anyone else been hit by this scam? The bank says they will give every penny back.

Note to everyone:

Stop using debit cards for purchases. Use credit cards instead.

Would you rather:

- Be missing $1500 from your bank account?
- Have the credit card company missing $1500?

Got hit for a couple hundy. They were using my card to pump gas in Florida around the same time I was making purchases in Metry. Everything was credited back. Figured it was a scanner somewhere. Reprobate thieves.

these recurring threads have me too paranoid to use my card anywhere.

im only using CCs in public from now on.

fairly certain if I sense that there is treachery afoot , I can deactivate a Discover card with 1 click in the web app and let them deal with it.

Or you can just bank with someone who promotes security and pays you your money back because of it.

If you use your debit card for anything except for getting cash, you are dumb.

Banks almost always reimburse you if you're card/account info is stolen. But its not a immediate thing. Sometimes it takes a few days for the fraudulent charges to be reversed on your account statement. Better to have fraudulent charges run up on a credit card than on a debit card. On credit card, worst case is that your card balance is run up for a few days until the charges get reversed. If they steal your debit card info, your bank account gets drained and you may not have funds available to access for cash, writing checks, or paying bills for a few days until the bank restores the stolen money

If you have a debit card and it's limit is not well below the balance of your bank account then you are, indeed, dumb.

I got hit about a month ago. Figuring gas pump as well as that is the big one going on now. I pull on those damn things every time I pump gas now. Luckily I was only hit for $57 at a Dominos in Midland, TX before my bank flagged my card.
