My only comment is that of course the death penalty as it is currently constructed doesn't necessarily show a direct correlation with a decline in violent crime. You're gonna get at least 10 years + sitting in jail before you get executed. The legal system has effectively neutered any opportunity a death penalty sentence would have of being a preventive measure; concurrently it makes any statistical effort to measure such correlation nearly null and void.

Because anyone with a brain shouldn't trust the government to do anything correctly.

But more to the previous discussion in this thread, there are numerous docs on Netflix that show how fricked up so many court stystems are that lead to so many wrongful convictions. Anyone who is extremely pro death penalty/anti appeal process should watch, they will have you questioning those beliefs

t's a practice that inevitably gets innocent people murdered. By the state, no less.

50 years ago your argument would have a lot of merit, but today, anybody getting the death penalty has all the evidence in the world against them.

It's more important now than ever.

Still firmly believe if we still had public executions we’d have lower violent crime
very naive. When there were public executions, there was just as much violent crime. No matter the consequences, there will be people who are violent and irrational.

They probably said the same thing 50 years ago. Wasn’t true then and I’m still skeptical now.

Ok, on this case the murder was caught on video. Just what is your "characterization"?

I never understood why people who don’t trust the government with anything all of a sudden trust the government with the death penalty.

I’m not against the death penalty in theory, but I am against it in practice. I don’t trust 12 random idiots to get it right.

Defense costs for death penalty trials in Kansas averaged about $400,000 per case, compared to $100,000 per case when the death penalty was not sought. (Kansas Judicial Council, 2014).

Found the problem, court appointed attorneys and court fees on endless appeals etc for murdering pieces of shite getting to bill tax payers for 400k.

So you trust the state to be absolutely flawless in their cases?

Do you trust the state to do anything exceptionally well, let alone flawlessly?

I'm actually for an idea I have, its 2 standards of death penalty.

Humane and Inhumane.

Here's some light reading for any other great ideas you may have.

Yea that’s cool and all but isn’t this the OT? We don’t mind paying a little more to get what we want to see. I know I don’t

I know these statistics and studies are based on numbers collected over the years-i also know that there are some people that straight up deserve to die based on their actions...The first precipitating event is extrajudicial, In this age of video cameras, DNA testing the person convicted of a murder has been proven in a court of law to be the perpetrator-they should be put down...this isn’t the age of Rueben Carter we are talking about anymore....wrongful convictions are being overturned rightly by DNA evidence-but these cases invariably are from the time before DNA analysis...

Exactly why I hate the death penalty. Better a scumbag like this live than an innocent man dying.

Innocent men die everyday at the hands of thugs.
What deterrent is the death penalty if a person lives out his life behind bars or is later turned loose on society again.

of course you don't... they don't support your view, so why would you believe them, as if they are, i dunno, factual, given the evidence we have and research that has been done...
What did I post that was incorrect? Why not get more critical of those "studies?" They include the salaries of the court personnel that are going to be spent regardless of what type of case comes before the court. The studies are misleading.

I don’t really believe in an afterlife so I’d rather see guys like this going to prison where he will dodge shanks and gang rape for he rest of his natural born life.
