Amen brother.
I've never seen a single thread on here about god damned statues until Landiue decided to take them down. Then they became the biggest part of history that this state has to offer.
I've seen threads about shitting in the top of a toilet. I've seen threads about masterbating monkeys. I've seen threads that would turn your hair white. But I've NEVER seen a thread on these statues until this debacle.

It's not about history or racism or slavery.
It's about power and facism.
Mitch just said in his press conference only the statues are coming down including Lee. Only the statues.
So he's just going to leave these pedestals and shite all over the city.
No thought or care about how they look or the damage he caused or the way he makes these places look like blighted shite.
The citizens and the idea of democracy just got Bitch slapped by facism. Mitch unilaterally decided to use public funds to vandalize private property and steal private art work off of private property that was the current subject of both litigation and legislation.
Let that sink in. Let that gravity of Mitch's actions sink in.
It's about power and facism.

See, the thing is...NO ONE cared even a few years ago. Most New Orlenians, regardless of color, could not have told you jack or shite about who was on the statues, what they did to get there, etc. For most folks, Lee Circle represented the gathering place for Mardi Gras parades.
So, the real question is why are we pretending ANYONE really cared on the other side of this? This was manufactured angst, which of course riled up the usual suspects entrenched in their identity politics to roam out onto social media and pretend they are all historians. I've unfriended a handful of jackasses on both sides of this in the last few weeks...
As for me, I "care" only in so far as the statues themselves are historical to the city apart from who they depict and as such should have been left where they stood. I also "care" because I'm not really a fan of caving into fake pressure as the side doing the pressuring is really only seeing how far they can go. That's never a good way to live...

i think 99% of peoples' problem, including mine, is that NO ONE cared about the monuments including black people until Mitch decided this would be a good political move. All he's done is spark up a debate that no one was having

If the city of NO had all of their outstanding debts covered, fixed the roads, addressed the huge spike in violent crime, had a budget surplus, and had an abundance of extra police resources to dedicate to monument removal security...then maybe most people would've given Mitch some slack on the monuments.
But when the city is supposedly so broke that they couldn't meet their obligations to firefighter pensions, can't fix the potholes, and are severely understaffed in NOPD...there's bigger fish to fry than to dedicate a ton of time and resources to tearing down statues that no one gave a damn about for 80-100 years (including multiple previous black mayours)
