One of the obstacles to St George is that the white middle class in EBR is generally anti tax. Good luck with it.

(And yes, folks should vote in favor of taxes to build out the town services.)

St G residents are well informed on the issues. All you need to know is if Better Together opposes you need to support.

Yes, they pop in here sometimes to confuse the issue.

If this ballot fails no one will pay less sales tax. If it passes no one will pay more sales tax.
The 2% in question will still be collected either way.

The difference is instead of ending up in the parish general fund to be spent parish wide it will end up in the SG general fund where it will go to funding SG needs.

That includes maintenance of city roads, caution lights for schools, drainage, zoning, permitting, the police chief, city offices, and litter collection.

Folks in SG should be able to see ditches cleaned, roads striped, less roadside trash, and basically a cleaner, safer environment.
If you don’t you don’t need to call 311. Just go down to the next city meeting and ask why not.
No run around.

They have backed off a little since SWB is up for reelection and MOP died. All they are is the attack group for SWB. They had to lay off because they didn't want to drive people to the polls and vote against her.

If SWB wins as mayor, watch for them to ramp back up as soon as the election is over.

Guess I missed that MOP had died, good riddance.

Hopefully this passes and StG gets to control their own tax money. Any word on the $250M that baton rouge still owes from the original election date.

The Together crowd just got a big grant from the CP Council for safe havens. They had to be good for a little while.

Doesn't look like there has been an update. I think they are still working on the incorporation date. SWB thinks it should be July 1, 2024 because of her lawsuit. I'm guessing that it will have to be decided by the courts.

I still stand behind the fact that SG organizers should be publicizing this more.

I want this to pass just as much as the rest of our fledgling city residents do, but yall better start getting the word out about it.

If they were smart, St.G would offer to have election day be incorporation date, but they would not challenge the annexations that were done after (and would only want 25% of the taxes collected from those properties between election day and the date of the LASC ruling). This would put total owed around $200 million.

I think St George residents are smart enough to figure it out. The people on this thread that can’t ’comprehend’ it are being deliberately obtuse and trolling because they are upset the new city was formed.

I’m sure you had the same prediction for St G vote years ago and Kamala winning last week…..right?

Bump for early voting (starts today)

Again - NOT A NEW TAX!!!

It reallocates the 2% sales tax that is for incorporated parts of the Parish to StG for sales within their boundaries.

It absolutely is a new tax since it doesn’t exist currently

1. You are dumb
2. It does exist
3. it is the tax that the city is holding hostage that goes to St. George area, no different than Baker, Central and Zachary.
4. BR is going to F&%# up again and get sued because they also owe it in back taxes going back to the date of incorporation and the SC ordered them to pay.

By all means run your face into a wall - your parents failed.
