I don't have FB. Unless something is really valuable, I usually post an ad on Craigs List and ask for some weird items.
One time I sold a set of 10-year old Callaway irons for two jumbo bags of Sour Patch Kids and two jumbo bags of Peanut M&M's.

Similar thing happened to me. I was giving away something to my reunion class. Told them first one to send me their address would get me. I had about 12 people message me and say, "me,me,me", or "I want it", or some other stuff but not one of them sent me their address. I finally had to repeat myself and say "the first one to send me the address gets it".

Fallguy,
A neighbor called me one morning to tell me he shot a coyote when he got home at 2am. He used a .22 rifle and hit it in the head. He said as he got out of his car and went inside, he saw it standing about 30 feet away and it just stood there. He came back out with his rifle and shot it. He wanted me to come look at it.
I walked over, saw it was just someone’s pet doggie, and told him to quickly dig a hole and bury it. He was going to post it on Nextdoor and FB as a proud moment.

People have gotten appreciably stupider in my lifetime... maybe in the last 5-10 years
Probably worth a spinoff thread, but I try to be semi-respectful here and not start a bunch of threads.

Are you in Atlanta as your sig suggests?
In Houston/Katy it is pretty good? As a buyer. "Is it available" is just a default to even start talking to the person. I usually try to warn the person though and say "I'm just looking" if I ask for more pics though I am DTB.

What's the point of asking "Is this still available"?
You respond "yes"
Then the person doesn't even follow up....wtf
I've gotten plenty of these messages

The amount of people who will agree on a price or agree to meet and then just vanish is astounding.
Pretty sure one creeper was trying to get with my wife. They agreed to meet and he blocked her when she said I was going to go instead of her.
I did sell my old car on FM for $3K more than the dealership offered. Actually sold it on marketplace on the way home from getting the offer from the dealer.

When I've needed to get rid of furniture I've had pretty good experiences. But i'm up front about that if they want it they have to come get it and i'm extremely firm on price.
I find taking venmo and paypal helps as well.. But some still pay in cold hard cash which is just fine as well..

Post something for sale for $250
“what is the lowest u will take”
Me: “what is the highest you’ll pay?”
“will u take 100?”
Me: “no, sorry. Best I can do right now is $200.”
(No response, end up selling it to someone else)
Same person about a week later, at 3am:
“will u do $150”

I've had pretty good luck with selling there. I don't sell furniture there though. I sell auto parts and whole vehicles. The key is putting details in your ad.
Text in all my ads:
Also, the "Is this available?" is a canned message. It's already in the text field with a blue send button under it. Never respond to those.

I will not lower the price unless you provide a legitimate website showing it listed cheaper (with shipping).
I will not ship this item.
Do not message me with scams, trades or low-ball offers.
