I am trying to sell a high-top bar table on FM. Other than at least 30 "Is this still available?" messages that were never followed up on by the sender, the amount of stupidity among these people is unparalleled.

Yesterday a potential buyer scheduled a meeting with me and never showed, and when I reached out asking where he was, he blocked me.

I've had 2 ladies ask me to deliver to their locations that were at least 50 miles away and another ask if I could give it to her for free because she had "just lost her job." Most of this drivel is sent in barely coherent English.

I can't help but question if the folks who message sellers on this website are just Russian plants trying to convince normal folks that we are a lot stupider than we give ourselves credit for.

I thought this might be the case as well.

Then I joined Nextdoor.

Throw that shite away or give it to goodwill.

No way in hell I would ever be involved with fb marketplace

Lol I’ve seen the “I just lost my job” trick when we tried to sell stuff on there. Don’t waste your time

I feel your pain man. I moved about 18 months ago and posted a bunch of crap on the marketplace to sell quickly. Dealing with those morons made me want to bang my head against a wall for hours.

On the bright side, it made me feel better to know that I am a somewhat "normal" person

I have never used FM, know little about it, but in order to get more people to use it, I am sure they have bots to contact people so that they tell other people "put it on facebook market, I put something up the other day and I had people contact me about it within an hour".. Because that is a lot better than you saying "Well, don't put it on facebook market because I put something on there 5 days ago and the only person who contacted me wanted me to give it to them for free".

I recently had someone offer for something I was selling, and we agreed on 11am the following day. 11am rolls around, no response. I reached out several times, didn’t hear from her. Finally at 2:30pm, she reaches out and says sorry I just woke up. I said sorry I sold it to someone else. She proceeds to get mad at ME and said she was up till 5am watching movies on her laptop and that she was really looking forward to purchasing the item and didn’t know what she was gonna tell her son. This bitch woke up at 2:30pm!!!

I renovated my house, went from a gas hot water heater to tankless.. put the gas one on fb market place figuring I could get some cash for it... was contacted by a city bus driver and agreed upon $150.

She pulls up in a beat to shite bonaville with some crack head looking dude. Hands me a wad of crumpled up assorted bills.. (didn’t feel like counting it right away because I’m a decent trusting person). Helped them jam it in the back of their car.. after They ride off I count the money and it’s only $60... never again.

I’d rather throw that shite away then let BR culcha have one over on me.

Yeah people are real stupid. Facebook market place makes it easy for more people to see your post, which is good for selling, but also more idiots will respond with low ball offers.

Anything under $200 I'll just donate to avoid the hassle.

And how is that your problem? If she was that concerned she would have been a responsible person and contacted you before or at 11AM.

Lol. I’ve been trying to sell a couch for 3 weeks now on there. I get at least 4-5 “is this still available?” Per day.

Had one even agree to pick it up at 8am one morning and never showed. People truly suck

I’ve actually bought a few things off FB marketplace from people living relatively close to me.

Drive to their house, pay $$$, load item, and go home. Pretty simple. A little back and forth with additional pics.

FYI—-I never go alone. I supervise while others load it up.

Tip for those who use FBMP sometimes, a lot of local police stations offer a “safe space” for conducting commerce like this where it is camera monitored and well lit. Allows for safe transactions. You can weed out weirdos if you let them know you do exchanges at the FBMP safe space at the po po station.

Last year on Nextdoor I tried to convince a lady in our neighborhood that what she saw in front of her house was not a "grey wolf" but rather a coyote. She wasn't having it either
