Ok, I know it doesn't matter what I name him since he won't come when I call him anyway.I have just been calling him "Jeff" because it rhymes with deaf

He is mix of catahoula and some pedigreed dog and has pale crystal blue eyes (kinda freaky looking eyes!)

I have been trying to teach him signals for no, come here, sit, etc. I have also read online of some of the things to do with a deaf dog.

Anyone here with experience with raising a deaf dog?

Huh

That light of eyes leads me to believe he will be blind as well.

name him Jam and then he would be Def Jam, or Valley and then he would be Def Valley, cool name for an LSU dog.

I think you are going to have to train him with treats and hand signals.

I'm sure you've seen this already but it seems to have all of the info you need.

It'll take time but it will be worth it. Cute dog.

You may also want to buy a dog whistle and blow it to see if he can hear in that range because dogs have a huge range and he may not be totally deaf.

If he were a St. Bernard, you could call him Beethoven. I'd probably call him Beethoven anyway.

I wouldn't have any use for a deaf dog so I wouldn't own one.

Give it away or drop it off at a dumpster and start over fresh.

That's funny, because I have a good friend who is deaf and his name is Jeff. He calls himself deaf Jeff as well. Listening to him talk on a cell phone is great fun. He can't hear anything except vibrations but guesses amazingly well . When people repeat themselves over and over with "can you hear me" while on the cell he tends to say to them..."Of course I can't hear you -I'm fricking deaf". Always good fun. CSB.

BTW...big 3rd on Radar
