Do we know if the pontoon was moving when it was hit by the sea fox? Or were they just sitting in the river?

I have NEVER heard of this. Born before 84 and idk anyone who has taken a boating test.
I have been operating a boat since i was 11 or 12 years old like a lot of people here but still took this online course.
It changed a while back it use to be born after 88 had to take it and they changed it to born after 84. I was born in 85 and took it. online course that took about an hour.
The problem is that it teaches you rules, it doesn't actually teach you how to operate a boat like a driver's ed course would a car. Just because you pass the online course doesn't mean you can operate a vessel. After seeing people at launches and on the water it is apparent most cannot. It is especially bad in the summer months with the party barges and wake board crowd.

Party barge was going around 20 or so. Just normal cruising.
Sea fox was going 52 MPH per life 360 from people on their boat at the time of crash.
It’s not good for the sea fox driver. Thats all I will say.

The irresponsible Sea fox driver that wasn’t even paying attention. That almost hit a tree line so he yanked the wheel at the last minute which sent the sea fox directly towards the pontoon.
This guy should have never been allowed to operate a boat. Much less own one.

52 mph at night is incredibly fricking ignorant and insane. It’s literally the recipe for how to kill people on the water.

If he was drinking this won't be an issue as he is going to spend many many years behind bars

For the lawyers on here, would they be able to use that speed obtained from their 360 or does that not hold up in court? Just wondering

Wonder if the sea fox owner has a tangible assets?
Even a Mil on liability isn’t going to be enough with two fatalities and multiple injuries.

Yes. That and gps data and any other electronically stored data can all be authenticated and introduced via experts.

If he was going 52 mph, it may not matter if he wasn’t drinking. An argument for negligent homicide can still be made based off speed alone at night.

quote:there is..... anyone born after Jan 1 1984 has to have a license
I am way to the right but there needs to be a licensing requirement to operate a boat.
Passing the Rules of the Road test should be a min requirement for license.
Which is complete bullshite. That means someone born on December 30th 1983 that has NEVER driven or seen a boat, can legally drive a bot without one... But someone born on Jan 1 1984, who grew up around boats, driven boats since they were kids, piloted large vessels, has to have a license. That's idiotic.
If the government/people want to require a license. require it for everyone, dont put an arbituaty date on it.

Younger folks have to take a boaters safety course, but there isn’t a license.

Please don’t start the license vs certification argument again. It went on for far too long earlier and it’s basically just a big argument on semantics.

im just mad that its set up on a date. thats bullshite

Any more update on how it actually happened? Obviously speed is an issue, was visibility of the sea fox by the pontoon an issue? I guess with it being a T-bone I'm surprised the pontoon didn't take more evasive action to wildly avoid the sea fox. But at 50+mph maybe that just wasn't easy/ possible?

Is there a speed limit on the tickfaw?
If there isn’t, could they still get him for negligent homicide if he technically wasn’t breaking any laws at the time of the accident? If he happened to be under the legal limit.
