A ransomware attack on the DCH Health System has rendered its three hospitals “closed to all but the most critical new patients,” hospital officials said in a statement Tuesday.

DCH is the main hospital here in Tuscaloosa...

This is a real shite show. These people who do this shite should be gutted like fish and left to die.

Does this mean I no longer have to pay my outstanding balance for the sleep study I did the other month?

No I am sure the billing software is redundant with great backups.

Now, if you are in the operating room and they need some type of computer for something... you dead.

Patch your shite people. A patch for the vector most ransomware uses for lateral movement has been out for almost three years now.

Not only are you unable to access old data, it is kind of an issue doing business while this shite is there.

If they already control your database, where do you think shite goes when you try to enter stuff during an attack?

DCH has the busiest ER in the state due to the geographic range it covers.

Probably that stupid wanna cry/eternal blue exploit. I spent a lot of time dealing with that crap a few years ago.

I guarantee it was. And it's still the most widely used exploit because...as can be seen with DCH...it still works better than damn near anything else out there.

Patching, using current operating systems, and employing basic network security practices could have prevented it. Attacks like this are almost entirely preventable, yet you still hear about stories like this every day.
