Daughter spanking to wife punching; can/does one help lead to the other?

I can't seem to find the "When is it ok to punch a woman?" topic I had read last night, but some of the ideas presented in it reminded me of a discussion a few weeks back. I believe the consensus of the thread was 'never', but Glassman and someone else had mentioned the notion that battered women may allow what happens to them continue because they've seen it happen to their mother and/or grandmother and they figure thats how it goes. "Generational" they said, IIRC.
Well, in a discussion of spanking your kids to discipline them(NOT beating them), a friend said she believes in spanking but not for a father to spank a daughter in fear of perpetuating that "generational" idea. And if he does, it stops early and the mother should/does take over.
So, IF you believe in spankings for discipline, or if you're a parent doing it, is this thought process a valid one? Or does that discipline know no gender bounds?

I don't know about spanking. No sisters and no daughter so I don't know the protocol. But does spanking a girl during sex make me a woman beater? Id have to think not. Cold clocking a girl in the face when you are a pro athlete could lead to death, spanking someone a couple of times won't.

thats whats wrong with america now..back when i was in school, you actually got paddled, and you got it twice as worse when you went home..your parents beat the shite out of you once, and you said it wont happen again and started to act right. Nowadays you can even look at a child wrong. much less whip them..thats why they all think adults owe them everything, and talked to them however they please..
