I'm betting this is a "social justice" mission. I don't think Israel allows overt evangelizing.

Yeah neither does the UMC these days.

Wish her well. One of my god daughters just got back from a short missionary trip to North Africa and is preparing to go on an extended missionary trip to the Middle East later this year. All you can do is instruct them on how to be safe and pray.

That's a great story, best of luck to her following her calling. Most people don't.
Are you going to go see her somewhere during the trip?

It's an honor and a blessing to be called to work for the Lord. Gonna be a tough time in Israel.
Good luck.

Simply put, they know the Gaza Strip or West Bank will erupt in violence at any given moment. Israel, is too unstable at this point to visit, let alone do missionary work.

No, it's not. But you're the expert.

I'm wanting to see the OP's response to this.

What would be your feelings and thoughts if your daughter was leaving Sunday to spend a year as a missionary in Israel?

I would never send my daughter into a war zone for a year.

My thoughts and prayers.

You'd be wrong. Not only have I worked in the Middle East for more than a decade, I lived and worked in Israel/Gaza/West Bank exclusively for 3+ years.

Your assessment of Israel is dead wrong, but that's to be expected from someone who doesn't know what they don't know.

I just looked at his post bistory. I think a few things are possible:

1. He meant his granddaugter is going to Israel, not his daughter
2. He is what he says he is but has started to lose his mind and has reverted back 50 years when his daughter did in fact go to Israel
3. Complete troll job with this thread

My sister started missionary work 12 years ago in Mexico. Now she has been living in Singapore for the last 7 years doing it. At first she had to come home every 6 months due to her work visa but now she stays and only comes home once every two years it seems. She retired from the state at age 43 and has been doing this ever since.

I never understood why people feel the need to go on international missions when there are starving inner city black kids in our country. Probably could have used that money she raised here and effected more souls.

probably because she is more likely to get killed in the "inner city" here than in ground zero of the middle east.

From his blog, it appears he is old, has a daughter that's a 25 year old minister, and makes some WWII claims. 25 seems like a young age for a WWII vet's daughter, but I've seen odder things, so I'm open minded about the situation.

If he's 90, he would have been 65 when his daughter was born. Unusual, but certainly not out of the realm of possibilities. How many kids did Larry King have after he was 65?

It's retarded. A 25 yr old Protestant will make zero contribution to a land steeped in thousands of years of religious strife. God didn't tell her to do this. God doesn't need this girl to do this. She's only putting herself in danger. Of course there are worse places to go, but there's also places much more in need of help than Israel. But I guess those places just wouldn't be as cool or carry the same gravitas.

My sister just graduated from college. I helped her pull a prank on my parents.

A couple days after graduation my sister told my parents that she volunteered for a trip to the ME and take part of the humanitarian efforts needed there.

My parents got upset and mad. I think they are too old for those kind of jokes now. Haha

I would stay the hell away. Although i would be ok with Egypt.
