So am I.

They're usually just happy to get out the house however many hours they can pawn off the children on a friend.

You can even pull the "let's wait for introducing the kids and me" as both a way to keep the good times rolling or the to end things.

Of course if you actually like her then you gotta wade into the emotional hooks of children wanting a father figure if she and her ex have a trash relationship in regards to them.

I work with a lady who has bragged about her $5000/month in alimony she gets from her ex husband.

Met a guy yesterday (a friend of a friend) who was getting needled by his buddies because he has to pay his ex $6,700/month in alimony. He obviously has it as he owns some car dealerships in Mankato, MN. His current wife is 20+ years younger and considered a trophy wife by his buddies, at least by Minnesota standards.

Long story short:

College buddy living here in AZ starts dating a single mom (had a six year old girl) about 13 years ago. She was living in NJ and caught her husband cheating and moves to AZ with her daughter to be closer to mom and dad. Ex had some high-powered job in the financial services industry and is ordered to pay $120K/yearly in combined alimony and child support. Girl gets a job as a Montessori school teacher here in AZ- probably making $40-45k/year- but buddy tells me her credit card statements are between $5-6k monthly and he's alarmed, rightfully so.

After a couple years buddy, who has never been married and has no kids, is getting pressure from both her parents and his mom to get married and crank out some grandkids. Her dad also wants his little girl to have some security. I warn buddy that if he gets married that alimony portion goes away but not her spending habits and if he's thinking marriage do a prenup. Buddy is a tightwad but succumbs to the pressure and gets married. They didn't end up having any kids but he becomes very attached to her little girl and all seems good until just over a year ago when his wife decides she doesn't want to be married anymore and "wants to work on herself". I asked if it is amicable and he says "oh yeah".

Before meeting the girl my buddy was an executive for Kraft Foods for 20+ years and had a sizable pension and 401K, in addition to other sizable assets. Reading between the lines he's probably worth between $3-4 million and his parents are very well-off. He says her retirement savings are $27K. He tells me the ex is going for half his Kraft 401K. I responded "that isn't fricking amicable. No prenup?" He shakes his head no. I tell him she's not entitled to anything he made before he met her, just in equity in the house he owned and other assets and investments accrued since the day they married nine years before. So what's her rational for going after half of everything? "Well Todd, you have it". He ended up stroking her a check for just over $500K so he basically paid her $50K a year to be married and she lived comfortably in a $750K house and traveled all over the world.

Young bucks, don't get married.

How exactly does a single mom stay at home and not work, and isn’t looking for a job?

So what is more desirable on a dating site?

Single divorced mom in her 40s
Divorced woman in her 40s with no kids

If the man has kids then the woman with kids will be more desirable for long term. But if she couldn't have kids and is genuinely interested in the man's kids, she'll be just fine.

A woman in her 40s who says "I never found the right man to have kids with" or worse she married and divorced without wanting kids..... Run.

but tons of perfectly decent people are single by no choice of their own

No the frick they arnt. Those type broke it off with good guys because he crunched too loud or called his mom every day or a host of bullshite reasons that stupid people validate by saying they refuse to settle. On the other hand they stage 5'd a few guys out of their league and ran them off. Then the cycle repeats. They set the bar way higher than their talent level can achieve.
When in fact they are fricked in the head.

The divorce rate would be much higher if men weren’t scared shitless of getting fleeced by alimony & child support. I can almost guarantee that 50% of dudes in the bubble are scared of losing everything they worked for.

You should always be careful about engaging in something with someone who has less to lose than you do if things don’t work out. In the case of marriage and children, well, I don’t know any single men sitting at home living off the money of an ex-wife and/or baby momma.

A lot of those women never developed the skills/career to take care of themselves. Some of them only have one skill at that point...

It terrifies me to think I might be thrown back into it. Just curious how close to the bottom of the dating barrel a woman in my situation would end up. Or if I should just go ahead and buy a bunch of pugs if I do find myself single again.
