This is what I have. Rated as best video quality by pretty much every dash camera enthusiast. True 4k video (not fake lower bitrate 4k) with the Sony Starvis 2 sensor. This is a 2ch setup with front and rear cameras. The rear camera is 1440p, but you can buy the version with only the front camera (1ch) or a 3ch setup with the front/rear and inside facing camera.

I have the VIOFO A119 Mini 2 and am very satisfied with. The VIOFO are usually rated the best bang for the buck.
Also, the Dongar adapter like others suggested works well.
If you want parking monitor, you will probably need to route the wires to a fuse box. But the VIOFO has a harness to monitor battery voltage and will shut off camera recording while parked if voltage goes below set value.
Check out Dashcamtalk.com for more info than you probably care to know regarding various dashcam mfgs.

Third the Viofo. I have an A119 V3 and it's already got me out of paying for an accident. Paid for itself 10x over.

Thanks for all of the replies. Really a wide range of cameras to chose from and no one is trashing any brand so I’ll compare and get one

My highlander has a dashcam built in from the factory. Maybe get a highlander?

All the terrible MPG of a sports car, with none of the power or cool.

Looking into getting a dual dash cam for forward and rear. Amazon of course says all brands are great and the price differences are wildly different. What are some good brands and brands to stay away from?
Get the FitCamX if they have one for your car. Great camera and it installs easily and integrates into the trim of your car. Here's what the installation looks like in mine (pic from their website).

The cables running across my dash or up to my rearview make it untenable for me. Does anyone know if they have found a solution for that yet?
The FitCamX doesn't have wires exposed.

I have the THINKWARE U3000. It’s the best for for monitoring your vehicle while parked. It has a laser sensor that pulls the least amount of amps. They also have remote services that are free to use. If your vehicle is parked and your camera is connected to a WiFi signal and not in low power mode, you can view your camera remotely. The picture quality is also good. I also installed a separate battery that supplies my camera when in parking mode.
This guy does a tone of reviews. You can also look on YouTube at blackboxmycar. They sell THINKWARE and have some good videos.

Got side swiped today.
Took less than 5 minutes to scroll through my nextbase app and download both front and rear videos of the accident to my phone.

I spent a million hours researching dash cams. I needed to be able to record inside the car so ended up with the Vantrue N4 Pro. Hardwired to my battery. Would’ve probably gotten a Garmin mini if I only needed to record outside. All of the dash cam companies have mediocre to bad tech/apps. Vantrue’s is decent but Garmin is said to be the best. I’ll probably get a cam with cellular ability next time. It’d be cool to be able to view 24/7 from your phone. Sad the ring dash cam didn’t work out.

My question is, when will they make a wireless one? The cables running across my dash or up to my rearview make it untenable for me. Does anyone know if they have found a solution for that yet?
Dude…mount camera high, almost inline with rear view mirror…cable follows the mirror mount up to headliner then down the side. Would literally take you 10min to hide everything.

Most cars have a fuse box below the steering wheel. You get a hardwire kit and you run the power cable from the dash cam, along your headliner, down the a-pillar and tucked in the rubber seal down to below your steering wheel. It’s not hard to tuck it all in so you don’t see any wires. And you just hook it up to the fuse box with a fuse kit.
It runs off of your vehicle’s batter at that point just like your door locks, radio, and anything else. When it’s hardwired like this, your camera is even powered when the car is off so it can record while you are parked.

Also, OP… make sure you get a dash cam with a super capacitor rather than a lithium ion battery. The ones with the lithium ion battery are cheaper, but they will have trouble withstanding the heat. The ones with a super capacitor handle heat way better.
