I've known two Eagle Scouts. One went to YALE, the other to MIT.

Etling had to earn at least 21 merit badges and in doing so, he joined the likes of Gerald Ford, Steven Spielberg, Neil Armstrong, and Sam Walton as some of the most famous Eagle Scouts.
And most importantly, LSUFanHouston

I'm an Eagle and so is my dad. I don't regret it at all, even though high school is tough on scouting. you want to spend more time with friends and extra curricular and all that, but it's so worth it to go all the way with it. I certainly don't regret it.

Eagle and are attending Air Force Academy now (I think they get an extra 10 points on their application if you are an Eagle).
I don't know how it works for the military academies, but I know you come out of boot camp if you enlist as one rank higher. So, for example, you'd be Private First Class rather than just Private.
Eagle is something that only 4% of boys who join scouting achieve (or something like that).
I am an Eagle Scout.
Edit: The only thing I regret about my time in scouts is not getting Eagle earlier and not really having the opportunity to move on to something like Venturing on Sea Scout. Though, Sea Scouts was under Venturing back in my day and that exactly what it is today. Basically, I'm saying that the high adventure type programs for older youth may, on the surface, be "cooler" than regular Scouting...and it's co-ed.

Your Honor, I rest my case.

Not every Eagle Scout walks on the moon, but every man that has walked on the moon was an Eagle Scout

I am an Eagle Scout as well. I also played HS football and carried a 4.45 GPA. It was very hard.
For me, I was a Life Scout (one step below Eagle) at 14. It took three years to get to Eagle, because I was basically MIA from my troop from August - November (our team sucked so playoffs were never an issue LOL).
I have met many successful men, and a significant number of them are Eagles.

As they say, "my Life as a Scout." So many people get there quickly and then get stuck. I did the same thing.

I made Eagle Scout, hiked 150 miles, camped 100 nights, canoed 100+ miles, etc. Still close friends with most of the guys I went through scouts with even though they're all over the country.
My career is in Project/Program Management now and my Eagle project was my first exposure to that type of work.
I highly recommend Scouts to all my friends with sons. I played sports and did Scouts from 6-17, so it doesn't have to be one or the other.

It's amazing how Eagle Scouts are super rare, super successful astronauts and Presidents and by page 2 on the OT we have 10 Eagle Scouts posting in the thread.
Such awesome

That was my father. Got to Life and stopped. He never pushed me, but he did remind me several times that he wishes he would have finished it out.

Got to Life rank at 14, changed schools & nutz dropped, never finished. I don't regret it but if I'd have had to have a resume, it'd been a positive on the resume.
I piled up the Merit Badges, I was already good at short-term projects at that age.

Well, if nothing else it shows you how many people were in the Scouts at some level.
Anecdotally, myself, my dad, two cousins and their dad were all involved in the Scouts. All but me made Eagle.

I regret not finishing. I made it to First Class but pretty much everyone in our troop quit after we took the trip to Philmont and our leaders kind of took a step back to let new leaders come in so I didn't have any interest in staying.
The one guy who did stay and get his eagle scout is now in med school residency.

There's a lot of ridiculing that goes on regarding scouting, and its real easy to do so, but there is a lot of value in it. It takes a lot of work to achieve what he has done, especially while remaining that seriously and successfully involved in athletics as that takes up a lot of time and very often the two conflict.
Something else that a lot of people take for granted is the quality of the troop and the dynamics amongst the boys.
If you get a decent cohort enter at the same time it's pretty easy to get them to push each other along and make Eagle relatively quickly.
If you get a boy in that is a few years younger/older than the rest of the troop he often feels left out and can really struggle to stay motivated.
It also helps to have an active troop with strong leadership that guides their boys through the process.

Gerald Ford was the only President of the U.S. that was an Eagle.
And I never claimed that I was super successful or an Astronaut, but the super rare thing is something I'll stand by.

I'll claim right here right now that I'm an astronaut. You can look me up, name's Mike Dexter.
