Because they offered a plea of negligent! Which is a crock of shite.

which is why she wants the video released. DA's are cozy with local police and will continue to protect them with no-bills and light sentences until something changes. releasing the videos and showing how outrageous the DA's protection is creates public outcry and hopefully leads to the necessary change.

Did you miss this? Let the justice system work.

You must have missed where originally the prosecutor offered a plea deal with no jail time.

The guy getting fired and charged is only once this got public attention

But again, every time I read these stories i say "I am 100% sure this will never happen to me."

Our police chief would personally choke this cop for something like that. That guy puts up with zero dumb shyt from the cops he's in charge of.

Guess it's just natural for a cop to feel "threatened" by an unarmed man crawling towards him begging to not be shot.

Play with fire sometimes you get burned. Here's a thought, dont make the police respond to anything and you wont get shot.. pretty simple

Please Don't Shoot Me," Man Begged

Shaver’s case became national news this week after the release of a harrowing police report describing the circumstances of his death. Shaver was unarmed, crawling, and pleading with officers not to shoot him moments before Mesa police officer Philip Brailsford repeatedly shot him with an AR-15 rifle, according to the report. The report also alleges that another officer repeatedly threatened to shoot Shaver.

Surprising.

quote:

On Tuesday, a Maricopa County Superior Court judge approved a joint motion from county prosecutors and Brailsford’s defense attorney to place a protective order on footage from Brailford’s body camera, effectively barring its release to the public.

Shocked.

They offered a plea of negligent homicide.

The local police union is smearing his name on social media.

This dude will never spend a day behind bars. Probation and house confinement, sponsored by the local police union. Hell he will probably still get a pension and get hired on by another agency. The only reason they blocked the video from being released is to keep this dude out of jail.
The less the public knows, the less they can question why negligent homicide was on the table for killing a man begging for his life.

Meanwhile the widow doesn't have a husband, and the public will never know what happened.

Sounds about right with the way of the world today.

shite like this will keep getting worse the more body cams that police get. We need to outlaw them ASAP.

My point is that the OP left out pertinent facts from the article. I am glad that he was fired and charged with 2nd degree murder. And I hope he is convicted.

FIFY.

To be honest I am surprised the video survives at all.

Exactly why we need to outlaw filming police too. We can't expect these guys to do their jobs if they're going to get in trouble every time they murder someone.

There won't be a trial. He took a sweetheart deal from the DA to avoid jailtime. The 2nd degree charge was a fallacy to give the impression he could go away for a long time, and to quell public anger. There was never a possibility of him actually getting convicted.
