Shutting down about 1MM bbls of refining capacity in the previous years did not help respond to the demand.

All this bickering is amusing.
Both Presidents took unnecessary actions that resulted in significant energy price increase. Biden through his administration’s energy policies and Trump through his Iran war.

Its a matter of priorities.
Hell I got a speeding ticket driving 65 MPH on the Interstate, due to Carters "Fuel Savings Plan".
55 MPH, on Interstate Highways, was Carters solution to gas shortages.
Maybe you just need to slow down, save fuel.

We can go back to Obama allowing US Crude to be exported.
However that was resoundingly cheered by the opposing side of the aisle so it would probably be controversial.
Granted that decision led to the super low crude prices we have enjoyed over the last few years. But also led to the spike we see today. So potato/potatoe
