She can do a minimum of 7, and the DPD can break out their checkbook.

What did DPD do wrong here? Because she worked 13 hour shift? If your employer shoots someone off the clock while not performing their job how is the employer liable?

I get that she was a DPD so she should have been less prone to act so hastily, but I don't get anyone thinking that makes this more of a crime, less of a crime, etc.?

I'm assuming they are going after murder for the press and to then plea it down to a lesser charge? I can't believe this even made it to court, for one to keep it out of the press by DPD.

2nd degree Murder is a little much for them to ask for IMO. Negligent homicide or voluntary manslaughter seems more realistic.

She opened a stranger's door and killed him in his own damn living room! Why would it not be murder 2?! If she ever had a run in with this neighbor, they should pursue murder 1

not sure if there is any validity to it, but I read somewhere that she and had issues with him in the past. Being a noisy neighbor or something like that.

That was something I asked earlier..I did read about noise complaints (loud music)..I never did find out if it was her that made the complaints.

I wouldn't say its completely irrelevant either though, some people do get anxious when high

What does this have to do with a drunk idiot going to the wrong door and shooting the guy who opened the door?

Cost of doing business.

Dont have your officers pulling such shifts when their judgement can effect lives.

The DA saying "I'm so horny" in a monotone voice (talking about how Guyger was sexting right before the shooting).

We didn't need a screen to tell she isn't a fox...

IIRC they also gave her time after the incident before they took her statement. Not sure on this just remembering the last thread.

That’s idiotic.

Second degree murder is typically a crime of passion with no planning, for instance, a guy comes home from work early finding a guy boning his wife and kills him or some fight out of nowhere happens and someone kills someone else.

Murder 1 is planning, commission during another felony or a few other mitigating factors.

Neither of those fit here.

She just got off a long hitch in a high stress job. You do realize this is Dallas.....right? I'm thinking dealing with turds all day long will tend to drain you. She made a mistake and entered the wrong apartment thinking it was her apartment. Tragic but understandable. Even the Thin Blue Line gets maxed out at times.

I say worst case........manslaughter!

There's no murder 1 or murder 2 in Texas.

The charge of murder only requires the intent to kill or cause bodily harm.

If that was all that happened it would be just a simple mistake

I’d bet dollars to donuts that the girl being in a cop uniform confused the guy and he thought the cops were coming in which affected his reaction to her long enough to mix with her confusion to cause a tragic shooting.
